This is the only "news" I've been able to find:
Nintendojo's blurb on GC preorders
The bottom line is that no one really knows for sure, but an announcement is expected shortly (possibly within the week). Keep checking with local stores, or check out ebworld.com. They are sure to make an announcement on the site when the 'cubes are available for preorder. ebworld.com also has a GC newsletter you can subscribe to, and the announcement will likely be made there as well.
Hope this helps...I too am anxiously awaiting the opportunity to preorder a 'cube.

I checked in EB last night, they said they weren't sure when they would have it for pre-order and that they would most likely only be offering bundles, but they couldn't give me any details.

Honestly, I don't know. I've only ordered from Outpost.com once before. I am tempted to order just the gamecube, controller, and mem card. Then I got some stuff i can use for trade in at EB for some games (since there bundles will almost definitly suck)

After playing the Gamecube at E-3 back in May, I went to my local Software Etc. (South Coast Plaza) and pre-ordered my own Gamecube. No forced bundles, no strings attached and almost 4 months ago. But they did take $20 down.
It's okay because this store really has their act together. They have all their pre-orders organized in a file folder and they keep all their customers up to date with info on their pre-orders.
If their Dreamcast and Playstation 2 launch dates are anything to go by, I'll be in good hands.
On each platform launch date, they were open at 7:00 am, 2 hours before regular hours. On that day the store was only open to people that had pre-ordered. They would have each pre-order seperately bagged and tagged and as you would give them your pre-order slip, they'd hand you your bag and ask if you wanted to add any games or accessories to your purchase.
It was all so smooth and easy that I would never pre-order a console from anywhere else.
