some basic game boy color questions

Im sure I could hunt around and find the answers.. but someone could probably answer them much quicker and easier right here

one of my coworkers wants to buy her little boy a game boy color and she has a few questions

I generally avoid nintendo, so I dont have the answers.. but I told her I would check in here

whats the going rate on the gameboy color
is it completely backwards compatible with the old games
what are the going rates for the new games
is there anything else special about it that she should know

I dont think new gameboy colors are $89. Game Boy Advance is about that much at Best buy. I've seen Game Boy colors(amazon and game stores) for around 60-70 bucks with the used ones being 40-50. The GameBoy colors do play all gameboy color and regular gameboy games. If your coworker is willing to pay for it, I would strongly advise her getting a GameBoy advance since it is completely backwards compatible(gameboy, gbc, and gba games), it has about 50% more width of screen than a gbc and has a battery life of about 15 hours, the most ever on any handheld. Plus it has a lot of cool games right now with a bunch more coming out(mario kart comes out this week, yeah!!!!). Ok so i'm a big fan of the GBA, sorry. Either way, tell your coworker to get the Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons games for the gameboy color. Very nice games. Peace.

very wrong information, unless you are talking about the GBA. the going price for a GBC is 70$ all around. but...there is a deal now that most retailers have that bundle pokemon crystal with their lime green gbc for 70$ the game usually retails for about 25$. and games are usually from 20$ on sale to 30$ max. i also have to agree with Souljahh and recommend getting her son a GBA if she is willing to spend an extra 20 dollars just for the system. you can get first party games ie mario, f-zero(racing) mario kart for the same price as a new GBC game 30$ on sale 25$. all other games are from 35-40 dollars.

I also think the best bet is a GBA. Backwards compatible with all GBs of the past. GBA games are usually $29.99-39.99 and GBC games are probably less than that, with the newer Zeldas being on the low end of the GBA chart with prices. The GBA is really a good system and why go for a GBC when there is something better and more lasting with the GBA? Just my opinion though.

I've seen used GBC for $40 at the mall. New ones are $60.

Games are still relatively expensive though, ranging from $10-$35 for GB & GBC games.

The GBC can play all games EXCEPT for GBA games. The GBA can play everything.

I would advise him/her to get a GBA, but for other reasons. First of all, the GBA has a lower battery life than a GBC, which could run up to 20 hours.

Secondly, GBC games are not completely compatible with the GBA. Sometimes the colors are off.

I wasnt aware of any colors being off on some gbc games. That's good to know. Maybe you were using really nice batteries on your GBC cause Nintendo itself says the GBA's is 15 hours while the GBC's is 10 hours.

Even with the colors being off on some games, I would still go with the GBA. Just my opinion. Peace.
