When I first saw the video of the new Zelda on GC, I was like "WTF?" and it just showed how Nintendo will always retain the "kiddie" look on most games. But the more I looked at it, I decided that it wasn't that bad - I only wish that Link didn't look like such a wuss.

Zelda
The part that I couldn't stand the most was when Link was surrounded by what looked like fireflies or something. That look on his face was mortifying. [shudder]

Exactly. They turned Link into a fairy boy

Since this game is from Shigeru Miyamoto, I have no doubt that it'll be a great-playing game. We were simply light-heartedly poking fun at Link's new appearance.

I was already apprehensive, since the N64 games did not "play like a Zelda game" in my opinion (the GBC games do though! Yeah!), and now it looks like Zelda may have turned the way Mario RPG (paper mario) went .

No, if it is a true Zelda game(Link to the Past, Zelda 1, GBC Zeldas) then no I won't.
If they turn Link into a fairy and make it play like Ocarina or Majora I'll be pissed.

That being said...
I miss Zelda II

Dude, it's certainly not going to play like the 2-D Zeldas, so just give up on it now. Just wait a couple of years for them to make GBA Zeldas.

I looked through the thread again to make sure, and sure enough no one claimed that they were expecting the Gamecube Zelda to be 2D, or play like them. Instead we were complaining about it in general.

Ugh. I was defending the game based on the screenshots, saying "I know it looks gay here, but I've heard it kicks ass in action." Well, it does kick ass in action; that is some seriously nice rendering going on there. But it ain't Zelda.

From the cartoony falls to Link's saucy wink, an epic storyline of good vs. evil shrinks back to the level of Saturday Morning Disney Zoog. And don't tell me not to judge it based on that clip; Miyamoto would choose the best glimpses to showcase the overall feel of the game, and the feel was "Hey, look, I'm perfect for the 7-10 year olds in the family."

The gameplay may be great. For me, dudn't matter. Great gameplay is a neccesity, of course, but without the ability to mentally get into the story and behind the main character, it ain't happening for me.

Gah, I dunno. After all these years, I guess I can give Miyamoto the benefit of the doubt. But I'm going to need some serious convincing before I accept that mongoloid little shrimp as our ancient hero, the almighty Link.

Well count me as a 2d Zelda fan (excluding Z2 also). If it ain't top down, I don't want it. Link's Awakening was one of the finest GB (or any system) games ever. I'm currently in Oracle of Ages and it just keeps being great. I certainly hope we see reissues of the original Zelda and the SNES Zelda for the GBA, I'd pay mad money for those carts.

Now here's a real fanboy idea, take the storylines of the "other" games (Link's Adventure, Ocarina, Mask) and "remix" them into the top down format for the GBA. I'd love to see that, fat chance though, I know.

A Link to the Past is my all time favorite game and I'll be taking off school and buying this the first day it's released. I think that the cartoon-ish graphics aren't all that bad, just not what I would have done. I can see how they want to make the game a little light for the younger players. I grew up with Zelda. There's no doubt in my mind that it won't be great. It was kind of depressing to see the new look though.

I've always wanted to see a meaner, darker Zelda game.

Here's to hoping for the following installment...

Does anyone know how difficult it is to make games with cel shading, as compared to the style seen in the early Zelda previews? Or how much of the system resources it eats up? Could it be that the GC wasn't powerful enough to pull off an entire game that looked like the early previews we saw? Personally, I have no idea... I'm just tossing around possibilities, because I still can't understand what legitimate reason there is for ditching those amazing visuals. I have a hard time believing Miyamoto would just tell his programmers, "Feel free to choose whatever style you want." Maybe some programmers or technophiles have some insight into this?

'Adventures of Link : Zelda 2' is still the best damn Zelda game ever made.

Is there a windows media file of the zelda clip anywhere?

I don't remember the specifics, but I know that Cel Shading takes up a TON less space than Texture Mapping.
