X-Box pre-order started at Gamestop

I just got an e-mail that Gamestop is beginning to take pre-orders for the X-Box. Say they have limited quantities. The site seems to be slow too...heh. Link is here:

Cheapest package is $599.91. And yes, this is a package-type pre-order. Too bad I won't be getting one anyway unless they show me something special .

Great googily-moogily!

$599?! you don't get to choose which software you want (I doubt any of those 3 games will be in the top 5 of the games sold at launch), you're forced to buy an extended warranty, and that includes a $15 "handling" fee (which doesn't include the actual "shipping" costs).

As the talking Bart Simpson doll once exclaimed: kids in toyland, you're being duped!

Those who pre-ordered early can...

Those of us who pre-ordered early can also get in on the "Early Bird Special". This package includes:

* 1 Xbox game console
* Halo
* Dead or Alive 3
* Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee

Price of EARLY BIRD bundle: $464.95 (includes handling fee, does not include shipping and tax).

This is about $15 over retail. I have no idea why there's a $15 charge for a "handling" fee. Regardless, I pre-ordered and I can always cancel later. Or sell it on eBay.

I got the same email, and I must say that Gamestop gave me the biggest laugh that I've had in a long, long time. Those bundles are outrageous! They should be ashamed of themselves...But, on the other hand, Gamestop is in the business of making money and if some fools gobble those bundles up, more power to 'em.

If I get an Xbox this year (I'm still trying to decide between that, a Gamecube, or a new PC...I might end up with all 3), I foresee no problem with picking one up from Best Buy while I'm on my lunch break.
