They're all made in the same place, I see no reason why they'd give us multiple colors and short shrift their brethren. And even if other colors are available in Japan when the GC comes to America, that doesn't necessarily mean we'll get 'em at launch; look at the GBA and its milky pink. Anyway, I wrote an email to NOA in complaint, as I would advise the (few, perhaps) people who really care about the color to do the same.
Well for one thing, we have over a million more systems than the Japanese will have at launch. To immediately set the tone with 1.5 million purple GCs would set a tone that I'm sure Nintendo does not want to set, immediately knowing that this can potentially hurt sales in itself. Also, you must not know that Japan gets the short end of the stick all the time. Nintendo is loyal to America, because we have never turned our backs on them in time of need (as they did during N64). We get better versions of games, improved hardware, and they just have a more liberal approach toward the U.S. Heck, not only Nintendo shafts their own homeland, "MGS2" will come out here first! With that said, I still doubt they will be all purple, but who knows (and for me, who cares).

What features will the GameCube have? Broadband connection, etc. Usable features.. as in the Dreamcast's broadband connection thing that could be bought wasn't exactly that used.

Anyone know if it will connect through S-Video?

I like how consoles now have 4 controller connections.

I have a lot of points in my Nextcard Amazon card that I'll be spending.. thinking about getting an X-box or GameCube with them when they come out!

When this thing comes out it's gonna be awesome, and I think it'll out rock xbox 10:1. No bets though. :)

There will be broadband capability, but not built in. Nintendo is hesitant about the current viability of networked console gaming, and I mostly agree. The GC will have S-Video and component video capabilities, but the cables will not be included with the console.

I could call you a name, but then I would get in trouble, so imagine I said something terribly clever and rude. I've never owned any Nintendo or Playstation or 3DO or Sega systems... only console I've ever owned was an Atari 2600. I was 7 and outgrew console video games when I was 11 and old enough to be interested in girls. Now I play video games so I don't have to listen to my girlfriend's nagging or pay attention to "her needs" or whatever... I play games on my PC and I could give a crap about any console enough to buy one. I might get an X Box, but probably not. Now - I don't really know or care if the N64 was a good system - all I commented on was how well it did on a financial level compared to the other consoles out. Call me a fanboy again and I'll cram that cube sideways up your backside. Who's a fanboy? :)

Don't take my "threats" too seriously (hence the smiley) - just seemed like a funny thing to say. :)

I'm happy with my dreamcast for now. Unless I can see that the GC makes any drastic improvements on a Football game, the NFL 2K series will keep me happy! :D

Sony did sell more PSX hardware than Nintendo did N64 hardware, but everyone knows hardware is sold at a loss. The real money in the videogame industry is made through software sales. When it comes to software sales, no one comes close to touching Nintendo:

How does that stack up though? Can you combine EA, Activision, Capcom, Acclaim, Midway and Sony vs. Nintendo? Or did these companies also produce games for N64? I'm sure they probably did, but it seems as though they licensed games to the Playstation more than Nintendo.

Maynerd 08-05-01 08:58 PM

From what I understand that chart for software sales covers what each company did for software sales. The nintendo number covers only the games that Nintendo produced (ie. Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, etc.) EA's numbers represent all over their software sales over all platforms.

I've seen this chart before and it's just insane on how much software Nintendo sells.

You certainly can't just combine them; besides the fact that most if not all produced games for the N64, EA & Activision also make PC games. And who knows what the actual licensing fees are. I think anyway you slice it, Nintendo's clockin' the dough.

I can't wait for that Star Wars Game...Not to mention..Mario, Zelda, and Metroid....Those games are ALL Going to ROCK!!!

This will be THE system in my opinion...And I own pretty well all the systems to date.

Hello,

Although the Internet has been abuzz about the Japanese launch of the Nintendo
GameCube, I don't believe Nintendo has actually quoted anything on the matter.
Now, the Japanese launch and U.S. launch may be two different things, so launch
colors may or may not be different. According to Perrin Kaplan, Vice President
of Corporate Affairs, "We are looking at a variety of options" when it comes to
Nintendo GameCube launch colors. Since the U.S. launch date is three months
away, stay tuned to our web site and Nintendo Power magazine for all the latest
(and official) Nintendo news!

Nintendo of America Inc.
Stephen Scott
It's obviously a generic reply, especially since I quoted Kaplan in my email. This basically tells us nothing. I guess I'll just have to see how much I still care about the color in 3 months.

Michael T Hudson 08-07-01 05:20 PM

I would think those software numbers include the game boy and game boy color so that will skew the numbers.

I don't know if you meant just Nintendo's numbers or all of the numbers. But any way you slice it, just about all of those companies develop for the GB systems as well as many others, and Nintendo remains at the top. Not to be outdone...

Some of those other developers also make games for multiple consoles, for the PC, and for handheld systems. Yet Nintendo still managed to sell more than DOUBLE the amount of software than its nearest competitor!

Am I the only one around here who would happily choose purple before the other colors?
