Any educated guesses at when a Xbox will be available for preorder? And I don't mean a down-payment at funcoland or babbages. I mean amazon, Buy.com, Gamestop, bestbuy, something like that.

Amazon has Phantom Menace DVD for preorder, and it comes out just two or three weeks before Xbox. Not to mention its been up for preorder for a couple of weeks now.

Just wondering if anyone had heard anything. I figure that Microsoft has released about all the pre-release-retail information that it can.

Most retailers are wary of taking a bunch of preorders they can't fill. They want to be sure X-Box will be available in large enough quantities to satisfy the demand. Many cite the problematic launch of the PS2. Others cite pressure from Nintendo and Sony both for retailers to NOT take preorders.

I got my preorder in at gamestop.com last Nov/Dec but they pulled the option shortly after that, for whatever reason.

Sorry I don't have any concrete info. for you. Just some food for thought.

CDUniverse.com is taking preorders starting October 1st. The Xbox will be $299 plus shipping. you can save 7% if you shop through e bates.

October 1 !!! thats weak! Thats only five weeks before its released!!

I reserved one at Camelot Music back in March. Or does that count the same as Babbages/EB?

At least they let you preorder. Who cares how far in advance you get to preorder as long as you get the thing on release day. At this point I would take what you can get. If someone else has preorders before October 1st then go with them. If not, you can always go with cduniverse. Or you couold always camp out in front of your local video game store in the November cold and buy one off the shelf. The choice is yours. I'm just trying to help.

With the price drops recently on all manner of hardware I would think that the specs and architecture on this could have or should have changed.
