I was waiting for this to come out, but I've waited on it so far since I'm planning on getting other games this month. Twisted Metal Black looks insanely good and nothing will keep me from buying that. Red Faction and NBA Street are other possibilities.
Dark Cloud's been compared to several games, most notably Zelda and Vagrant Story. I have to admit Vagrant Story bored me, basically because of the exact same kind of environments and gameplay throughout (what I played through anyway, a couple hours). I've read great reviews of this, a reason I usually don't go by reviews. I read the Dark Cloud review, mostly which say it's a pretty good game that didn't have much hype or expectations.
So, what's this game like? Is it worth the money?

I plan on picking it up after I get back from my wedding and honeymoon. I am going to trade in my N64 and some games and pick up a few PS2 games (Dark Cloud and possibly that new Tokyo racing game, I forgot the title of it) I just bought Red Faction a week or so ago... its awesome.

I haven't gotten to play it alot but its pretty fun. I never really played the Bond games on N64. It's kinda like a Quake game. Except you are actually trying to accomplish something besides frag people, given, you can literly blow ANYTHING to pieces in the game. Walls, the ground, lights, etc...

If I go that route, I'd have to buy 2 more games this month (after buying Onimusha a week ago). Maybe I'll rent it first ... Thanks for the help.

Red Faction is at least worth a play through...I am currently on the first area with much to go. I cancelled my Dark Cloud preorder due to a very negative review released by PSM magazine. When I received my EGM mag, they had a shining review of the game!!! Anyone play Dark Cloud yet??? How is it???

Picked up Dark Cloud and Crazy Taxi 2 on the same day. Dark Cloud is pretty nice, the graphics are good except for the backgrounds in the random dungeon (still in the 1st dungeon after 2.5 hours) which seem pretty plain. The Georama (rebuilding a village) part of the game is fun, but i'm still getting used to the fact that your weapons can break through normal use. If you don't use repair powder on them, they can be destroyed permanently. On the plus side, weapons can be upgraded and when they reach a certain level, you can fuse them with other weapons and keep 60% of the original weapon's power. Check out the review at http://ps2.ign.com/

From what I've read in the reviews, I'm actually leaning away from it now. More info would be nice, though. Red Faction is the one on my mind now!!

As it should be! that game is awesome. It's most like Half-Life, with some Goldeneye-type stelth levels thrown in. It's a wonderful single-person game, and as an added bonus, the multiplayer game is as good as the other FPS on the market for the PS2. This is one of the few must-buys for the system (so far).

I agree, it's a must buy for any PS2 owners. Very addictive.

i picked this one up, and surprisingly I really like it a lot. i'm still a bit confused by the whole weapon development thing, but it's pretty fun. it's cool to make your town and then walk around in it.

http://www.DVDHeadGames.com has Dark Cloud and Crazy Taxi for only $45.99 each, so you can afford both.
They also have Twisted Metal Black and GT3 for pre-order for only $43.99!
But Red Faction is not there yet. They are usually a few weeks behind in getting new games.
