Well I decided to try out the fast load for PS1 games on the PS2 and this is my conclusion. I tried Spyro 2 and the game and worlds inside the game did load almost instantly. However, the system gets as noisy as it does when it loads a PS2 game. The few seconds it saved me did not seem that amazing to hear the louder noise, but it was cool to see it work. I also heard about people having problems with audio synchronizing using the fast load. What is everyone elses take on it?
I also tried the smooth texture feature and I did not notice any differences? Has anyone else seen an improvement on games using this feature?

Haha, funny. Actually go to the drivers in the system menu and go to the playstation drive. I think triangle gives you the options. If you reset the system or turn it off everything defaults back to regular load and regular textures.

I've had diffrent results depending on the game. Vagrant Story and Gekido have shown the most suggificant diffrences with the smooth texturing on, and Legend of mana improved the most with fast disk speeds. It all really depends on the game, if they had over optimized the textures for the psone then there is not going to be much change, and games that don't load really really slow to begin with won't show much diffrence either. Try a bunch of diffrent games you'll see what i mean.

I've found fast load really helps with the simpler games; it cuts the between-level times on Bomberman from about 5 seconds to 1. However, some games depend on disc loads taking a certain amount of time, and will respond poorly if they don't get the data at the speed expected. One example: Chrono Cross FMV scenes (and, indeed, most PSX FMV RPGs) will skip and stutter with "fast load" on.

OK, I just tried GT2 with and without these features. It does load a little faster, but my PS2 doesn't make any extra noise like seeyouauntie said his does. I didn't really notice any difference in the graphics either. If I am in-between games and have the chance to change the settings I probably would, but I don't think that I would make any special attempt to turn these features on.
