Hey D300 could I put the HotRodSE in that?

WTF I went ahead and ordered the 27" version. This is more of a future thing, I won't have time or room to build it until July but wtf.

It looks like you will have to put a board across the cabinet to hold the Hot Rod since it's only 24 inches and the width of the cabinet is 27 inches. Let us know how the cabinet turns out when you're done.

Can anyone send a link as to where one could get a coin slot and / or bezels for around the monitor?

I'm curious about the quality of MAME. I have never used it. Do the games run as smooth as an original coin op? Ms. Pac Man is my vice. How does it compare to an original?

As far as I can tell, Ms. Pac Man's audio and video are 100% accurate. The main sticking point is the input. Would you be happy playing it with a keyboard? Or do you want to spend the big bucks and get a authentic 4-way joystick?

If I am building an arcade, why would I need to use the keyboard to control Ms. Pac Man? Please explain.

I didn't realize you were building an arcade (must have missed your previous replies)... I thought you were just going to try the software out... If you do build, make sure you get 1 4 way joystick, as the 8ways stink at games like pacman.

Yes, you can, but ideally, you would have one 4-way, and 2 8-way joysticks. THat's how the slikstiks are set up. Player 1 can use either the 4-way or the first 8-way.

I bought a 3rd joystick that is dedicated 4 way. It and the player 1 8-way are wired together. It's simple and was cheap. The joysticks were on sale for about 8 bucks each from happcontrols. Right now, they're about $14 each and the two additional buttons were about $3.

I'll post another recommendation for having a seperate 4 way and 8 way joystick for P1's controls. Did this on my last cab and love it.

I read you can get an 8-way that has a switch on it to make it 4-way. Anyone have any experience with these? Thanks for all the input.

I have built one mame machine already, and I'm in the process of building one for my dad. They were both arcade conversions. I got two different cabinets at auctions for 50.00 each, I cleaned up the cabinets and repaired them, then installed a cpu and monitor in the cab.

On my machine, I used the X-Arcade control panel since I've never soldered before and I didn't want to mess anything up.

With the experience I gained from building my machine, I decided that I'm going to build a custom control panel for my dad's machine. I'm going to install 1 of the Ultimarc 4/8 way joysticks for the player 1 stick and a standard 8 way for the player 2.

I'll post pics of both cabinets later.

You don't have to do any soldering when you build a control panel. Just buy some .187 female quick disconnects when you build your dad's control panel.

That's exactly what I did. Worked great.

Much easier that way. I never even thought of soldering when I did mine. Seems like it would be a pain to replace if the microswitch ever went bad.

Can anybody help me or instruct me on how you keep Hi Scores? I've placed the hiscore.dat file in the appropriate folder, but my hi scores aren't being kept. Do I need to do anything to get it going? Is anyone successfully running with Hi Scores?

PS - Im running Mame32.
