I vaguely remember hearing or reading something in the past few weeks about a feature length movie of the Simpsons. Anyone have any info or am I having delusions?

a movie for a animated series, often leads to doom of the tv series.

the series has started to suck in the past few years as all the good writers have left. movies are usually better than the show so what have they got to lose.

Matt Groening has stated numerous times that if there is ever a Simpsons movie, it would NOT be until after the show goes off the air.

Matt also recently joked in an interview that the Simposon's movie was already planned, and that it would feature a teenage Bart losing his virginity, etc... Some UK paper didn't get the joke and reported that part, which led to the most recent bunch of rumors...

It's been covered (in interviews) by the top creative folks at The Simpsons that a movie is very possible, but wouldn't even get underway until the series has run its course.

Which begs the question, how long will the show run before calling it quits. We're in season 12 now, with 13 already in the works, so 15 seasons is not out of the question. With the right influx of new creative people, 20 is not as ludicrous as it seems; or is it...?

As long as FOX thinks it continues to be marketable/profitable, of course.

Was that movie better than the series? Hell no, but it was still enjoyable IMHO (of course, I was a kid the last time I saw it, so...).

I think Simpsons, The Movie will do better than what South Park, The Movie did ...

I'd be really surprised if it did. Firstly it wouldn't be able to ride the hype of notoriety that South Park did. Also, I don't see how The Simpsons could match the sharp satire of SP:BLU since it's writers haven't done any biting satirical episodes recently.

and south park the movie didn't do that badly...it made about 55 million. not bad for a 20 million movie. though definately not up to expectations. regardless, what it was was an excellent movie...funny as hell. It wasn't tv show rehash. I'd hope the simpsons could pull that off (I honestly don't think the simpsons should go to a movie...stay on tv)

i think the latest batch of Simpsons Movie rumors came from live readings by the cast members at comedy festivals and a little tour in Europe last year. On a few occasions, when Groening and the producers were there for Q&A's along with the cast members, they said they had been reluctant to do a movie, despite lots of pressure, but felt that since the show had been on so long now (and they were hard pressed for new ideas every season) a movie seemed like a logical step, since it was the one thing they hadnt done with the show.
