Hi all. I was watching the Simpsons last night, and I got to really wondering. I know theyve made several references to the fact that nobody knows what state Springfield is in, but Id like to know what everyone thinks. I think Springfield is located in Utah. I dont know why thats just my guess

There are so many Springfield's (but no Springfield, Utah). The one's I know of:

Springfield, Arkansas
Springfield, Florida
Springfield, Georgia
Springfield, Illinois
Springfield, Kentucky
Springfield, Louisiana
Springfield, Massachusetts
Springfield, Michigan
Springfield, Minnesota
Springfield, Missouri
Springfield, Nebraska
Springfield, New Jersey
Springfield, Ohio
Springfield, Oregon
Springfield, Pennsylvania
Springfield, Tennessee
Springfield, Vermont
Springfield, Virginia

Probably there's more. I heard once that it may be the most common name for a U.S. city.

That it is. From what I have heard, there are 120+ Springfields in America.

I believe http://www.snpp.com has much more on it. (Great site for Simpsons info, BTW)

Here's a thread from a couple weeks ago on this...

And anyway: [annoyingly sincere voice] Isn't there really a little bit of Springfield in all of us?

I think it's based on Pickering, Ont.

Pickering's, got a Nuclear Power Plant, A giant Gorge, the 401 Highway, a nearby large City, Toronto. and a couple of other similarities that I can't think of right now.

Matt Groening is from Springfield Oregon, but they purposefully don't make it any state.
