I didn't realize they did that. Why? That announcer was terrible!

The announcer really killed the show for me, -if it's a replacement, I'd rather have the original.

Here is a sample of what the show sounds like before it is ruined:

The epic robot-fighting series BattleBots is set for its second season on Discovery Channel and Science Channel. BattleBots features the world's biggest, baddest, strongest, and fastest next-generation robots from all over the world as they duke it out for robot fighting supremacy. 2018 Champion Bite Force will return to defend its title against top competition including perennial contenders Tombstone, Minotaur, Witch Doctor, Bronco, Bombshell, and Yeti. Eight two-hour episodes will begin airing Friday, June 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery, while Science will air on Wednesday nights from 8-10pm starting June 12. The metal munching mayhem is coming back, from the bots to the builders, the flames, the spark and all the robot guts and glory. Each match consists of two robots competing in a single, three-minute bout, the goal is to destroy or disable their opponent. If there is no knockout during the battle, a panel of judges will declare a victor. The play-by-play team of Chris Rose and Kenny Florian will return to call all the action. Faruq Tauheed is back as the ring announcer. Jenny Taft joins the fun this season as the sideline reporter. BattleBots also highlights the design and build of each robot, bot builder backstories, and their pursuit of the BattleBots championship. Homemade robots built on a number of platforms and featuring a huge variety of deadly weapons go head-to-head, all captured by state-of-the-art onboard technology and cameras to enhance viewing and provide combat analytics.

Love this show. Can watch a 2-hour show on the DVR in 15 minutes and skipping the nerds.

Tombstone back.

Curious as to what the rules say regarding entangled robots. I figured they would stop and get out a crowbar and then send the bots to neutral corners and restart ...

My DVR recorded a bunch of episodes yesterday. I'm guessing these were just repackaged versions of old episode content. Anyone know?

If it's anything like last season, there's the Discovery Channel episode on Friday, followed by a slightly-expanded version of the episode on The Science Channel the following Wednesday.

Yeah that sucked - final episodes from 16, 17, 18 seasons etc. Clogged our DVR as well.

I fast forward between the battles. 2 hour episode (1.5 hours no ads), takes around 30 minutes to watch

When I was a kid and I'd visit my grandparents, my grandpa was always in his lazy boy watching wrestling. Two generations later, I'm watching robot wrestling.

I'm enjoying the tweaks to the format this season. The extra stuff seems to be more purposeful than usual... I like seeing the testing booth and hearing the builders talk about their designs before the bouts. It's definitely better than the fluffy bios that filled up the ABC version.

Lots to fast forward through so each episode only takes 30 minutes to watch

That Hydra v Bronco fight was awesome, Hydra looks amazing

Re: BattleBots -- Series Discussion Thread

Anyone catch the finale for the season?

Tombstone, I thought made a critical error by changing the blade from the longer red one to the short black one in the semifinal.

It was demolished rather quickly by the eventual repeat champion.

I wonder what the time between matches is.
witch Doctor while winning their semi match got pretty beat up and lost in the final when the flip from being upside down device failed.

This was a pretty great season and I love the new 2 hour format.

Re: BattleBots -- Series Discussion Thread

I enjoyed the season as well. I like the longer format which allows time to include more behind-the-scenes footage (and more fights than the shorter shows). Sure, it also means more tedious rehashing by the hosts and announcer, but that stuff is easy to FF through. Don't get me wrong, I think the hosts are good, but they get pretty repetitive at times.

Crazy how Tombstone's massive hunk of metal can be snapped in half while the other bot takes barely a scratch in the process. Well, that's metallurgy for you.

Re: BattleBots -- Series Discussion Thread

Had no idea why Tombstone changed a winning setup

This season was good, there is a lot to fast forward through though and the wannabe comedian announcer annoys me

Re: BattleBots -- Series Discussion Thread

I like Rose.
He does a lot of sports too. Most;y Baseball.

Don'nt know the other guy's name, I think he is a former MMA fighter.

My only complaint about Rose is he uses one phrase constantly and it gets annoying.
Its a simple, "Uh Oh" but he says it a lot.

They could get rid of the ring announcer with all the terribly corny puns and it would improve the show by a million.

1,000,000 times yes. I hear "Let's go to -- " and I hit the 30 second skip on the remote.

Re: BattleBots -- Series Discussion Thread

It’s back for season 5.

5 shows have aired.

Unfortunately Discovery is bombarding every show on the channel with huge banners covering a big part of the screen obscuring the battles advertising the new Discovery + App.

Also it seems that they aren’t airing all the battles on the main show and are saying that some can only be seen on the Disc+ app.

Re: BattleBots -- Series Discussion Thread

I watched the second broadcast of the latest episode and there was an additional six minutes added so they could preview Discovery+ during commercials. And 90% of the ad space was for Discovery+. There's a separate Battlebots ( "Bounty Hunters", I believe) spin-off series on Discovery +
However, Discovery+ is $5 monthly for the version with ads and I'm not doing it.
