Well, when you have to find air time for sure fire mega-hits like "Steve Harvey’s Funderdome" something has to get clipped from the schedule.

Anyway getting back to the show, very entertaining, like American Ninja warrior, there is a lot of rubbish to fast forward through.

some of the robots you know will get smashed in later rounds.

I would love to see certain projectile weapons allowed, like arrows, bolts, ball bearings and very small calibre pistol rounds (22 LR).

Projectile weapons were allowed but pretty limited in terms of efficacy.

From the battlebot design guildelines:

"Projectile Weapons
Projectile weapons are allowed, as long as they do not create an arena-fouling problem. Projectile weapons must not use explosives. Springs, catapults and gas-pressure powered guns maybe acceptable.

You may be required to show that your projectile weapon will not damage the Lexan exterior of the arena."

Does suck that this isn't coming back. Was perfect summer show.

We can hope for the writer's strike to happen so maybe ABC needs some quick filler programming.

Does the competition still happen? Meaning was it put on by ABC or was it put on by another organization and broadcast by ABC?

New season just started ! Going the way of American Ninja Warrior, not about the best bots, but having sub par females and other novelty bots with stories instead of the best

Some of the bots were pathetic !

Excellent news! Hopefully Discovery will treat the show the way it should be, with a good balance of science and humor. Perhaps getting it off network TV will - as mentioned above - help back out of the "Ninja Warrior" waters it was treading into.

The epic robot-fighting series BattleBots is making its triumphant return with all-new episodes set to premiere Friday, May 11 at 8 PM ET/PT on Discovery Channel and Wednesday, May 16 at 9 PM on Science Channel. BattleBots features the biggest, baddest, strongest, and fastest next-generation robots from all over the world as they duke it out for supremacy in the rapidly exploding world of Robot Combat Sports. Chris Rose and Kenny Florian return to call all the action, while Jessica Chobot serves as the sideline reporter. Faruq Tauheed is back as the ring announcer. The metal munching mayhem is back, from the bots to the builders, the flames, the spark and all the robot guts and glory. Each match consists of two robots competing in a single, three-minute bout in which the goal is to destroy or disable their opponent. If there is no knockout during the battle, a panel of judges will declare a victor. Some of the returning favorites this season include Tombstone, Minotaur, Chomp, Witch Doctor, Bronco, Bombshell, Bite Force, Yeti, and more. BattleBots highlights the design and build of each robot, bot builder backstories, and their pursuit of the BattleBots championship. Homemade robots built on a myriad of platforms and featuring a huge variety of deadly weapons go head-to-head, all captured by state-of-the-art onboard technology and cameras to enhance viewing and provide combat analytics.

Good start. Surprised by the results in the main event. Most arena damage I've ever seen.

It's nice to see they've expanded the competition and allowing the robots more than one shot.
Did Ring Announcer Faruq Tauheed come from somewhere else or is he this show's "discovery". I genuinely enjoy his intros.

IT would be cool if certain types of projectiles were allowed. No firearms, but crossbows, slingshots etc

Re: BattleBots -- Series Discussion Thread

So is the episode on Science just a replay of the Discovery airing? On my cable listing they have different descriptions, titles, and episode info.

Bill Needle 05-16-18 07:54 PM

Re: BattleBots -- Series Discussion Thread

It looks like the episode that airs tonight at 9e/8c on Science channel is a "super-sized" version of the new episode that aired last week on Discovery - whatever that means since it is only a few minutes longer.
