I've got TiVo. Love it. Use it every day. Except Saturdays. There's nothing good on Saturdays.

I love my Tivo, especially since I just got my updated channels (grrr... having to do guided setup again sucks) from them. My only concern revolves around the stories I've read about advertisers being upset about people not watching commercials anymore and what they want TIVO/Replay to do to correct it.

I was going to start this thread last night and forgot. I've had Tivo for 6 months and would never go back to regular TV.

I recently got a second Tivo for my bedroom. Tivo was really smart when they gave so many away during their contests. I got my first one free and was hooked for life. I can't imagine watching TV without Tivo.

I have a Sony SAT-T60 DirecTIVO with 105 hours of recording time. I will never go back.

I never save to tape anything off DirecTV anymore, I just leave on the TiVo.

But, I still use tape for locals....

I'm dedicated to soon buying one. I'm thinking that maybe replay would be more for me, so that I can set my programs online. That would be fun for sure.

I've only heard vague rumblings. Do you have any links to point us to that might provide more info?

I love my Tivo! But there is a long way to go to improve the service. Maybe version 2 that Chad mentioned will help, but I haven't gotten it yet.

I have ended up really liking my TiVo. There are more benefits that I considered. Instead of stacks of partially filled video tapes with various shows that I never wrote on the label, it is all neatly on the TiVo. The use of the program guide is nice, and the ability to tell it to tape all programs of The Mole or whatever is awesome.

The only thing now, is that I think I might want more capacity. I only have a 14 hour model.

Tivo for me here.

Randyc, I have one of those 14hr models (won from Tivo) and I've read that you can upgrade those pretty easily. Check out http://www.tivocommunity.com. It's a complete Tivo forum with a section on hacking your Tivo. I plan on upgrading mine with another 80gb HD to make it about 100hrs. Hopefully in time for the Tour de Franc.

randyc,

It is sooo easy to upgrade your Tivo. From start to finish, even with it having to copy a virgin disk to my harddrive first, I had it done in a afternoon.

Tivo vs. ReplayTV

I have the DirecTivo and absolutely love it. It is the best piece of equipment I have purchased in a long time. Actually, thanks to all of the kind people here at DVDTalk, I earned enough gift certificates to Amazon.com to pay for it completely.

For those of you who do not have either a Tivo or a ReplayTV, I found a great comparison of the two on AVSforum.com. The link is: http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/Forum1/HTML/004998.html

This post is in a Tivo forum on avsforum.com, but someone said it was also posted in the ReplayTV forum as well. It is very informative.

Question

Question for those of you with TIVO and cable boxes. My roommate and I just upgraded to Digital Cable so we now have a cable box (and we already have 2 TIVOs). For those of you with TIVO and a cable box, curious to know how you deal with it. Right now, we split our cable line: one to the TIVO and one to the cable box. Unfortunately, that means that our TIVO can't get any of the "upper" digital channels (such as all of the multi-HBOs, Showtimes, MAXs, TMCs, etc). Now of course, you can go through the box and then TIVO, but then basically you would have to set TIVO to record channel 3 (what the cable box is set to) for everything, and that really negates a lot of the benefits of TIVO.

Red Dog - Try the following link and see if it helps any. I have basic cable service (no cable box), so I don't know for sure. This page may have your answer though.

Red Dog, TiVo has support for a cable box.

You tell TiVo during guided setup that you have a cable box and it will control it for you. The IR stuff is all included, it changes the channel on the box and records everything off of channel 3. Works really well.
