When I saw the pilot episode of Dark Angel, I was of the opinion that Jessica Alba's acting the flattest, deadest, most unrealistic that I had seen since Denise Richards in The World Is Not Enough. But in the regular season, I think that her skills have improved to the point that she's getting the most she can out of the (sometimes silly, sometimes expository) script that's handed to her. This has became one of my favorite shows, but does anyone think the show has made it on anything other than the casting choice? Would the show still be on the air if, say, Cathy Bates had been cast as Max?

I think it's getting better. They manage to pack a lot into an hour's episode nowadays.

Last week's episode was great. One of the best so far. They should let Rene Escaverez ( not sure of the spelling ) write more episodes. They were one of the main writers on CBS's Now and Again that was unfortunately cancelled last season. Dark Angel would be so much better if they would quit focusing on her annoying friends and co-workers. Every time they do a story involving the delivery friends the show grinds to a screeching halt. Some of the worst dialogue I have ever heard during alot of the episodes. The interplay between Max and Logan are really what keep me watching the show.

The show has been consistently entertaining. Especially the episodes with the Super Soldiers. They showed she can be vulnerable.

I enjoy the show a lot. They are very interesting and the outfits she wears are more then enough to hold my attention.

(I'd like to hold something of her's in return).

Did you watch last night's episode?

SPOILERS:

I though it was the lamest episode so far in terms of plot!!
I mean: she doesn't figure out Logan might have problems with his legs (ok, I can accept that), She convinces that girl to give up Manticore (sp?) and that happens just like that! I mean, sure it's a one hour episode and you have to move things fast, but that looked soooo forced. Disappointing.

"Gotta Bounce/Blaze"
"Girls kick ass. Says so on the T-shirt"
"Are you a true playa, from the himalaya?"

Am I the only one wondering WTF the cast are on about. Especially that Rasta! For the love of God, no-one in Seattle talks like that!
But, she's really hot, so I'll keep watching. (Who you calling shallow? )

You know I thought I was the only one who did not like the friggin slang they tried to use.

I also liked this week's episode. It never dragged, and held my attention all the way through. Too bad they offed the doctor helping Logan, I sort of liked her (though she was willing to trade the X-5's for her freedom).

Bigger problem with the episode. The doc said that she worked on the X-3s through the X-7s. If more recent models were available, why send an X-5? I suppose the next generations could still be too young, but you would think that they would have improved the tech enough that a younger X-6 or X-7 could still beat an X-5.

As for the slang used (mentioned in another thread) remember that this series takes place in the future. Languages evolve over time-- words in common usage drop out, new words and meanings appear, words from other languages are adopted. The show's writers are trying to make guesses about a middish-21st century English. Good choices? Maybe or maybe not. Go back just 10 years and you'll see that there are many terms in common usage today that weren't used in the same way (cookie or web for instance) or didn't exist at all (DVD, USB, and so on).

When my sister saw my computer wallpaper of Jessica Alba from DA.

Quote from my sister: "she can't act for sh*t. She's so fake and don't know what the heck she's doing"
Me: "does it matter? she's hot as hell"

Do you really believe that. I know how people talk, it is more obvious that they are trying to extraplate the language into this new-age hip-hopish talk. I personally think it detracts from the show. Notice in the past episodes where there is less slang used, it tends to be a much better episode. I understand they are trying to make it surreal and different, but come one.

They sound like idiots reading off the script for the first time.

For anyone else that's also played Shadowrun before, do you also find it a little amusing that Seattle will be the new center of the US post-pulse/awakening/etc?

Also the first time she was sitting on the ruined sky needle the scene reminded me a bit of a mix between The Crow and Battle Angel.

I haven't really noticed much in the way of slang....

.... but I think that only five or six episodes have screened in the UK though.
