Leno is what middle America wants unfortunately and that's apparently what NBC is after. I find the guy completely unfunny in every way.

I don't watch either Leno or Letterman. I don't mind watching "headlines" on Leno but I don't go out of my way to catch his show.
But Letterman is the one I think who is absolutely not funny. There are times I've seen Leno when there's a joke now and then that is really good. Letterman is just an angry old man and he hasn't been funny for many years now. |

Funny, I was just gonna post how bad Leno has been the past two weeks. I have laughed three times in the past two weeks from watching his show. Mostly from Headlines and JayWalking...sad....really

Re: Is it just me or does Jay Leno and the Tonight Show...
Conan is way better but Jay plays to a different audience. He can't do the same stuff that Ferguson or Conan can do. The Tonight Show speaks to a demo that DVDTalk doesn't fit. I only DVR Leno on Monday because of "Headlines" and I like the "Jaywalking" segment. Neither Jay or Conan are good interviewers and when Conan did start hosting The Tonight Show; he wasn't as good. Conan couldn't do the same stuff he did on the Late Show because he's in an earlier timeslot.
I've watched Conan for years but when Craig Ferguson took over the Late Late Show from Kilborn; Conan started to become my second favorite late-night talk show host. I wish things went back to the way they were. Letterman and Leno then Ferguson and Conan. I miss watching two hilarious guys on 5 nights a week. I DVR'd both Craig and Conan and although Craig is way funnier IMO; it was nice having them both on. I watch all of Craig's show; I usually skipped the interviews that Conan did. The great thing about Craig and Conan is they both interact with the audience and it makes the show so much better. They don't just read jokes off the teleprompter the whole time. |
Re: Is it just me or does Jay Leno and the Tonight Show...
Jaywalking tends to be my least favorite thing Leno does. I can hardly stand it.
Kimmel is the only late night show I consistently record on the DVR. I am looking forward to Conan when he's on, but I am more of a Daily Show guy. |
Re: Is it just me or does Jay Leno and the Tonight Show...
I watch Leno for "Headlines", but that's it. I do not find him as unfunny as most people here. He is a reasonably funny stand-up comedian. What he is, is a bland, safe perpetuator of celebrity culture. He's there for the Hollywood community to promote its wares. He doesn't make waves. He has braindead, softball exchanges with these people, then he cashes his paycheck and fills his hanger with more exotic cars.
Unlike most people here, I have always found O'Brien singularly unfunny. He may be a bit edgier than Leno, but his delivery is simply horrible. He strikes me as someone with no comedic abilities - in terms of performance, not writing - walking in off the street and doing a variety show. As for Letterman, he's the sarcastic curmudgeon with some funny insults, but I find his schtick stale after all these years. |

I watched Leno on occasion prior to the dust-up (like everyone else, mostly for Headlines). He's okay. I don't think he's quite the bottom feeder everyone says he is. That title is reserved for Carlos Mencia. I was never a Conan fan either, but I have yet to turn on Leno since they gave Conan the boot. That whole situation was just wrong. I wish Conan luck, but I'm with Team Ferguson. He has no rival. |

Well this is DVDtalk. Admitting Leno is funny would be on par with admitting you don't have a 12" penis, you eat unhealty 5 nights a week and your 70' yacht is just a dingy.

He is popular for the same reason Two and a Half Men popular.
People find dumbed down comedies easier to digest. |

I'm not really a fan of Leno's show (his stand up, on the other hand, can be quite funny) and do not dispute his "middle America" appeal. But I'm curious as to what his ratings are in, say, LA and NYC. Anywhere to find that?
