The Muppet Show (Disney+ and ABC) - 2/4/26

The Muppet Show is coming back as a special and possible backdoor pilot next year. It will be hosted by their very special guest, Sabrina Carpentar and is being produced by Seth Rogen's company. It will mark the 50th anniversary of the original show.

re: The Muppet Show (Disney+ and ABC) - 2/4/26

This is huge and I want the Muppet Show back(I'll take any Muppet content), but this is unfortunate timing in light of recent/current events. I'll be skipping. Disney should sell off Jim Henson/Muppet studios or let them go independent. Current Disney leadership clearly doesn't hold the same family ideals Henson and the Muppets embraced for decades.

It also doesn't help that Disney hasn't really nurtured the brand to keep them relevant outside of the Jason Segel led Muppets movie, and even then I think Segel is more responsible for that film's success than Disney. They're knee deep in Star Wars and MCU content (and animated sequel-itis) to give a shit about the Muppets.

Sabrina being executive producer of a Muppet special was not on my bingo card but I hope it turns out in keeping faithful to Muppet lore.

Maybe Sabrina can sing about her wet pussy juice running down her leg, I am sure that would be a great Muppet duet.

Count Chocula, Frankenberry, and the Booberry ghost are now Muppets. No word on the Fruit Brute.

I love the Muppets! I hope it results in a proper variety show like the original Muppet Show.

Why do they keep trying to bring the Muppets back? It was such a '70s/'80s thing that didn't really need to continue much after that especially without Jim Henson. It would be better left as a childhood memory for Gen X. What's next? Are they gonna bring back Lamb Chop, Garfield Goose, or Charlie McCarthy?

Without streaming numbers its tough to say how popular they are currently but the 2011 film made a good profit. Muppets Most Wanted less so but it was still profitable at the box office and I'm sure with their dedicated fan base and family friendly content they sold a good amount of blurays, t shirts, plushies, what have you.

My daughter loves the Muppets. She's 16 now, but she was the right age to latch on when the newer films came out. Muppets Most Wanted was one of her first films in a theater.

Walter is her favorite.

She's talking about going as Walter dressed as Kermit for Halloween this year.

Fruit Brute always gets the shaft! But nobody...I mean NOBODY cares about Yummy Mummy.

Frute Brute (formerly Fruit Brute) hit store shelves with the “howlin’-good taste of fruit” in 1974. He was sent back to our cereal vault in 1982.

Fruity Yummy Mummy made his debut in 1988 with a similar fruity flavor to Frute Brute. But the cereal was only around until 1992.

I remember when they brought them all back in 2013 with an unwanted revamp look.

Here is a cool link with the history of the cereals.

Looking forward to Statler and Waldorf having Fozzie removed from the air for making jokes, deporting Gonzo for not knowing what he is, and sexually assaulting Miss Piggy. Muppets Are Great Again (Disney-style)

Special guests, does Disney own General Mills now, or is there a character-only licence..?

That could be subversively hilarious.

And would result in exactly the right wrong kind of "but the Muppets are for children!" misinterpretative nonsense that is everywhere these days...

This ad was made by the Jim Henson Company. And is is listed a collab. So Henson does not own Monsters Cereal and General Mills does not own the Henson Company.

Disney owns the Muppets and associated characters. It does not own the Jim Henson Company or any of its other properties (such as Sesame Street, etc.),

Re: The Muppet Show (Disney+ and ABC) - 2/4/26

Been meaning to start a movie thread about Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone producing and likely costarring in a Miss Piggy movie. The jumping off point for the story (which they're saying isn't necessarily what the movie is but given it's brilliance most definitely is what the movie should be) is Miss Piggy being cancelled.

I was sold before the kink line and reaction. I'm definitely sold now.
