Dexter: Original Sin - Code Blues (S1E10) - Series Finale

Dexter races to find the missing child before it’s too late. Season finale.

Episode 10 of 10

This has been a really solid first season. Wishing it wasn’t already over and am excited for a second season announcement.

Gotta say, enjoyable season. Felt like the old show. Dexter: Cabin in the Woods is a faded memory for me. Can't wait for season 2!

Agreed. I wasn't expecting much from this, but I really enjoyed some of the comical screwups that the young Dexter went through before perfecting his MO.

I also thought they did a great job re-casting all of the characters with younger actors. The young Vince doesn't quite have the perverted laugh down yet, but that's OK.

Unlike the last few Dexter entries I liked this one more as it went along. Terrific job from the cast.

Solid finale and like I said earlier a great season all around. This show reminded me of why I liked the early years of Dexter so much. It’s just a shame that it spirals into such a shit show eventually.

How long is Brian going to stalk Dexter? It seems like the theory about him being involved with Harry’s death may be true. I feel as though that’s being built up and may be something that happens in season two.

Did Nicky for sure not see Dexter? He was unconscious but part of me wonders if he heard him and Spencer talking and may have caught a glimpse.

LaGuerta overhearing that Harry doesn’t believe her serial killer theory also seems like something that might come into play in season two. My guess is she’ll ultimately drop it once Harry dies and not bring it up again. Still though, in that case it almost feels like she should have followed up on Brian as a lead.

Also wondering if Bobby will remember any of what Harry told him in the previous episode now that he’s regained consciousness.

Should be some good things to follow up on in season two. Ultimately though great show. Good cast, captures the look and feel, the music is a huge part. So much better than Dexter: New Blood.

That's exactly what I'm anticipating.

Well that was a very over the top happy ending. Dexter saves the kid. Kills the bad guy. Harry convinced Brian to stay away. Deb gets into the police academy. The whole family dances.

It was a good season of TV. Some of it was redundant. But it was devoid of the late season contrivances that brought the show down. I assume there will be a season 2. And if so I wonder if they keep Brian on, just in a different location.

Having him move off to like Tampa and showing him get through med school or whatever you do to get into prostetics while still stalking and killing in the shadows could be a decent B plot. Maybe meets a girl he really likes and falls in love and something tragic happens to her to really drive him over the edge.

One annoyance with how the big bad was dispatched tho. He ex wife will live in fear forever. He is banging on the door trying to kill her then disappears. There's no way she will ever feel safe again.

Agreed, overall excellent show/season. I think the guy who played was Dexter was the perfect choice. Really glad they did such a great job with this.

I wish that Dexter had gotten more info from Spencer on how his whole plan worked. Did he kidnap and kill the first kid as practice for doing the same to his own kid? Did he really have no problem doing that just for revenge on his ex-wife? So now that kid's murder goes unsolved forever. I still don't quite understand his end goal either.

I took it as a two part plan. Part one was to kill his son to fuck over his ex wife. But part two was to pin it all on the cartel and become a big hero for solving it / taking down the child murderers and elevate his own career. They should have done a better job laying it all out but reading between the lines that's how I interpreted his plan.

re: Dexter: Original Sin - Code Blues (S1E10) - Series Finale

I finally finished the last 3 episodes. Solid season overall. Gibson and Slater were great as Dexter and Harry. I liked Brown as Deb in spots.

Initially I wasn't too keen on a Dexter prequel, but they actually made it work. It could have worked as a self contained season, but there are some loose threads. When they revealed Spencer/Dempsey being the bad guy. I admit that did surprise me.

Deb's now ex boyfriend and that shady thing he appeared to be involved with is a loose end. I vaguely recalled when Brian was in the original show. I didn't realize what a psychopath he turned out to be.

I'm not sure we need anymore flashbacks to Harry, little Dexter and baby Deb. Unless they want to jump forward in time and explain how Harry's wife died. But really it's not needed IMO.

And Molly Brown is 31 years old now. Season 2 IMO needs to jump ahead a few years with her actively in the Police academy.

But really an entertaining season overall. I hope Phillips and his writers don't stretch themselves way too thin trying to produce 2 Dexter shows in a year. That is if the current show continues on.

I was really sceptical and while I wanted to watch it anyway, I was sure, I'd be disappointed again. The first two episodes felt a little like Dexter cosplay, but overall it was a lot better than Season 6 to New Blood. It was really a solid season of Dexter, although I hated the twist with Spencer. That was just a twist for the sake of a twist, but it made no sense whatsoever. Sarah Michelle Gellar was miscast. I like Buffy, but as an actress she doesn't have much more to offer.

Paramount changed their mind. This will be one and done. No second season. Not surprised after the merger

What the fuck? That totally sucks. Especially when the Dexter franchise is on fire right now.

This move isn't creative or ratings driven. It's totally money driven due to the merger.

It did say they are starting a writer's room to continue Dexter Resurrection. So it was probably one or the other and they decided to dump the prequel.

Prior to the merger there was talk of a Dexter universe essentially. That’s such a bummer they cancelled it.

Yeah I dont get that decision. This uses predominantly young actors (minus Christian Slater) so I cant imagine the budget was some kind of huge savings vs other things that could have been axed. At least give it one more season and then pull the plug if you want. It was building up to resolving the true nature of Harry's death and now we dont get that. Pretty bad decision. Especially with how well it was recieved.

With any luck they could change their mind and give us another season.

Deadline says Original Sin was given a 2nd season by the previous Showtime management before the merger. The new management killed it.

It says they want to focus on the current incarnation with Hall.

They let a bunch of crappy Star Trek shows run at the same time but they can't give us two Dexter series at the same time? Maybe it was too late to cancel that Starfleet Academy show, but we'll see if it gets a season 2 now.

Agreed. Really disappointing. Original Sin ended up being better than I thought it would, so I was pleased when it got renewed.

I doubt it was a terribly expensive show to produce. Not a lot of special effects, star power, or location shoots, as opposed to something like Yellowjackets.

Re: Dexter: Original Sin - Code Blues (S1E10) - Series Finale

To me this should have always just have been a one off.

I liked the show but I don't think it ever really caught the same feel as the original. It was fun to see an origins story but I don't think there was enough interesting there to justify going further. Do we really care to see why Dexter switched to using slides for his tokens? Or watch Deb in police academy? Or watch Dexter dating Rita? The best part was just seeing how closely they were able to mimic the original characters but in the end nobody really knocked it out of the park. Batista was the only one that made me think wait, is that the same actor?

I liked Christian Slater in this but they should have gotten an unknown. I just kept thinking it's Christian Slater trying to do James Remar. And I have no clue why Sara Michelle Gellar was in this unless she was just a superfan or really needs the money which is hard to believe with her resume.

Overall, the writing was not as good and it felt like Dexter 'Lite' and if Michael C Hall is still interesting in doing the original why watch the imitation.

Re: Dexter: Original Sin - Code Blues (S1E10) - Series Finale

I am bummed about this personally. I love the Dexter world and I thought most of the cast did excellent in their roles and enjoyed the story overall. I was looking forward to more seasons. At least another one.

Original Sin >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> New Blood and it isnt even close IMO.

However Resurrection is amazing and up there with the best of the OG seasons IMO. If Original Sin had to be sacrificed to get more Resurrection then I am ok with that but I would have preferred both. Especially with the wait between seasons, having them airing to offset the wait would have been ideal.
