Re: Dexter: Original Sin - Business and Pleasure (S1E8)
Okay all caught up now. I’m liking this show quite a bit. More than I thought I was going to. Started off a bit slow but the last few episodes have hooked me.
So Brian is already killing during the same time period as Dexter. He’s not trying to reach Dexter because of Harry at this point. I forget exactly when Harry dies. Wondering if Brian will kill throughout the run of Original Sin and be at large? Clearly he’s around until 2006 or so.
Also LaGuerta found Brian’s file. Seems like an issue with the original show and that she should have connected some dots sooner. Seems like a bit of a plot hole.
Even young Deb knew how to pick the wrong guys. Gio has felt off from the start. Wondering if we’re done with him and that story or if he’ll show back up.
Also Spencer is a crazy asshole. Curious how the last two episodes are going to play out and his endgame. Did he notice Dexter following him? I’m wondering if he’ll end up killed as retaliation for what happened at the drug house in this episode. Thus preventing Dexter from being able to take him out but confirming his theory to Harry and exposing him.

The hooker killer is all but confirmed to be The Ice Truck killer. All the theories that we had seen him in the restaurant in episode 2 or 3 taking a chair from Dexter's table were right. Harry is apparently trying to protect him and save him from being found out. I have a strong suspicion they're going to recontextualize Harry's death.
In the OG show we find out it wasn't an accident, that Harry overdosed on heart meds on purpose and killed himself. Which is later confirmed by Matthews saying Harry called him the night before to ask him to keep and eye on Dex & Deb. Well I think they're going to go with Harry being scared that Brian Moser is coming for him and that was the reason for the call. He'll have some conflict arise trying to protect Brian from the investigation, and in turn Brian will be the culprit of the heart med OD.
I'm okay with that change but it does kind of lead to a slippery slope where Brian is now following Dexter for what 15 years before the events of season 1? Seems a little far fetched. Also you would think that name would stick with LeGuerta when she saw Harry hiding his folder. How does she not recall that she's heard of him before later on in the OG series?
This show is really well made but there's a few inconsistencies and plot cracks that take it down a notch for me. (Like Harry was a uniform officer. Not a detective. He's wearing the uniform when he finds Dexter in the shipping crate. He's wearing the uniform when he visits Vogel once Dexter is active. None of the detectives in the future reference working directly with Harry in the past). That kind of stuff.

The plot holes bother me a bit but truthfully it makes more sense that Harry would be a detective working with Laura instead of a uniformed cop. Still though it is annoying that these details can’t be kept straight.
I read that theory about Brian already being introduced as well. It’s in episode two. The way he looks and is dressed it does make sense.
Agreed that it’s weird that he waits so long to try and get in touch with Dexter though. Again my best guess is he’s keeping his distance because of Harry. Also agreed that there will be a retcon tying Brian into being involved with Harry’s death.

Harry dies soon tho. He lives another year from when he had his heart attack / the nurse tried to kill him. So if Brian kills Harry now it seems really odd that he still waits another 15 years before interjecting into Dexter's life. And especially odd he never mentions his role in Harry's death (if it happens) in the OG show.
