Okay so just finished the first episode. It’s not bad. I feel like in a lot of ways I liked this more than New Blood. I think a lot of that is down to the Miami setting and it feeling like Dexter again.
The cast is okay so far and I do think Michael C. Hall’s narration helps me accept Patrick Gibson in the role a bit more. There are some definite cheesy aspects but the original show had that too.
Overall it’s at least watchable. I’ll probably stick with the season.

I liked the pilot a lot. It isn't great but it's like bloody comfort food.

I mean that tends to be a characteristic of prequels is that nothing major can happen to characters. Depending how they handle it there still could be some interesting story elements to play with for the season.

I watched it last night and I thought it was pretty good. Felt very much in the spirit of the original shows earlier seasons.
Gibson and Slater work well together. Tying it in as a direct follow up to New Blood with Dexter reflecting back on his career as he’s barely alive helped it not be a goofy parody.

I don’t know. I’m still pretty iffy on the ties to New Blood personally. I know it’s a show and Dexter has always been fairly over the top but him being alive is such a stretch.
It’s as bad as Palpatine being brought back from the dead or if there was a sequel to Breaking Bad and somehow it turned out Walt isn’t dead.
They really need a good reason to bring Dexter back or it won’t work and will just be silly/cringey.

Can’t wait to watch this. I liked NewBlood quite a bit.

I'd say the first episode was decent at best. The dialogue was some of the worst written in a decade and Molly Brown is fucking awful, but like RichC2 there is something comforting about the nonsense, the music and this universe.

I will say young Dexter gives off weirdo vibes. Based on this version of the character you would think that some people from his past might find him a bit suspicious. I get it that he was trying to act normal and that killing is supposed to make him feel something rather than nothing.

But Gibson's Dexter seems like someone who's going to sneak into your bedroom and jerk off in your panty drawer.
Maybe with the haircut and job at the police department it will be toned down in future episodes.

They're lucky Hall agreed to come back and narrate this. Otherwise, this felt like just a cheap imitation.
SMG though...
If I closed my eyes and was asked who was talking... he sounds like Milo Ventimiglia.

I have to echo most of the sentiments here. Decent enough to continue watching. Found it a little slow to start but picked up midway. Some of the acting from Dempsey and new Deb was a bit broad. New Dex aside from the hair, was pretty good. He doesn't have Hall's baritone so good thing they stuck with the original for the narration. It just wouldn't be the same without it. Great seeing Christian Slater and Sarah Michelle. Their presence mixed with all the callbacks on the show and hearing the music, add a layer of fond nostalgia for me.

Yea I thought no way they'd pull this off, just no way. But dex14 is 100% right, had Hall not come back for voice over narration it would've just been a joke. But his voice over and the exact musical que's you'd expect sold it for me at least for now.

I liked this. It's not as good as regular Dexter seasons but still enjoyable. I do think the actress for Deb is all wrong tho. The character is written way too 'popular in highschool'-ish. Deb was kind of awkward and goofy in her early years on the show. The actress is playing it a little too valley girl that swears vs hard ass cop's daughter in my opinion.
There sure were a lot of 90s music montages. A little bit of that goes a long way. But all that said really happy to have this and like that it has a tie in purpose to New Blood and Resurrection. Quite sure the end of this season will be Harry's death juxtaposed with Dexter waking up on the ER table.
As for Resurrection...

I was pretty hesitant to watch this, but I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed this first episode. I think the girl playing Deb is pretty spot on, especially with all the cussing!
This weekend they are showing TWO episodes back to back...FYI

I agree w/the overall sentiment here--glad I watched it and will continue. Some of the characters felt like cartoons/caricatures of the adult versions, but frankly I'm just glad to have this after the second failed [IMO] "ending."

A little inconsistency I've noticed. In season 8 of Dexter theres a video of Harry going to see Vogel after Dexter's first kill. When he goes he's in uniform. So according to og Dexter Harry was a uni still, not a detective wearing suits and what not. I'm sure there will be a few more of these inconsistencies. I'm assuming everything Vogel related is being retconned.
