I watched the original French version and this, as is the usual; the first episode of the adaptation is pretty much a remake of the first episode of the original. Some changes including geography and businesses but otherwise it followed the same beats.

Yes, even the supermarket scene with the pretentious checkout totalling.

Episode 2 was literally Sweet Dee Mysteries :lol:

This is going to get old really fast if she does everything flawlessly in every episode, but it's still fun enough for now.

It is fun and you’re right it could get stale easily, but the Roman little part got to me when she and daughter shed some tears.

do not like when they solve a case with a clue we did not see, in episode 2 she said we led you to this place (to rob) because we noticed you used "code 3" calls as a distraction, we did a fake one. "code 3" was never mentioned before that reveal. That is lazy writing. Don't like that at all.

I saw in the opening credits that the second ep,was directed by Marc Webb.
He directed Amazing SM 1/2 but hasn't done much more then tv shows since then.

Garret Dillahunt is in this now too.

I need Olson's Gillory to get more likable.
As of now I don't like the character. Too smug and annoying and not in a fun way like Dee on Sunny.

The 2nd episode in general seemed a lot sloppier, I hope it finds its footing.

Webb also did the upcoming Snow White that everyone has been hating on. He came out strong with 500 Days of Summer but has largely stuck with his TV and Music Video roots.

Yeah... I want to like this show but may get old quick.

With shows like these I wonder what the cops did in their years before the main character showed up. Just not solve the case and constsntly arrest the wrong people?

They solved cases, it just took them way longer.

I’m really loving this show. The latest episode was highly effective. Tense, heartwarming, a little comedic. Really great performance by Olson.

I am still watching but I am on the fence as I am unsure about the lead character. I am not sure that I like her very much.

Something snapped in me within the last few years where, for the most part, I can no longer enjoy genius or brilliant characters. All I see is the non-genius actor speaking lines by a non-genius writer. I can still suspend disbelief for other characters, but not for them. But I do like this actress.

I said that about her in post 30.
Not likable.
Too smug.

I only watched the first one so far but if she is so smart why is she a janitor?
Was that addressed?

I'm enjoying the show but yeah she's too smug and does too much stuff that would get cases thrown out.

I like her, don't like her partner. The actor plays the same character type since Rescue Me.

I think Daniel Sunjata is doing a terrific job. The whole cast is really good. They got a good ensemble and always love seeing Judy Reyes from Scrubs, another Bill Lawrence masterpiece. This show exudes fun and energy. I’m not sure about these negative reviews. I think rotten tomatoes has it ranked pretty high as well. I mean I know it’s fairytale, but it’s fun fairytale.

She's too scattershot to hold a steady job is whats implied in episode 1

Episode 5 was the first episode that lived up to the pilot's uh.. potential.

Re: High Potential --> 9.17.24 --> ABC/Hulu --> S: Kaitlin Olson

I have really been enjoying this show, and it does seem to be getting better as it goes along. This latest episode really was a case of the heroes of the show being genuinely unhappy with how things ended. Sure, they solved the case but along the way they learned how easy it was for the actions of one person to negatively impact the life of anyone who was adjacent to them.

I did love the ending where the tattoo artist gets his spider back. I can get behind that happy ending.

bluetoast 10-27-24 09:27 PM

Re: High Potential --> 9.17.24 --> ABC/Hulu --> S: Kaitlin Olson

Yeah I was waiting for the spider return, and it's good to see different kinds of results from the cases, and that the other detectives also have their own skills/intuitions and aren't idiots like on a lot of shows like this.

Don't really care about the regular family life stuff, it's more interesting when the cops pop in and interact with them. Karadec's date being interrupted was more entertaining than any of the other home stuff. More of that, less of the "my teenager is growing up" that we've seen a thousand times.

Re: High Potential --> 9.17.24 --> ABC/Hulu --> S: Kaitlin Olson

Olson is the heartbeat of this show. It really is so great and she is fantastic. Equally fun and enjoyable and I swear almost every ep gives me emotion. I well up just a little bit every episode. It’s a damn good show with a hypnotic lead. Watching her solve a crime and putting the puzzle pieces together is truly captivating and cool. Hope to see much more. This is a procedural, no? I haven’t followed a procedural cop show since The Shield, probably.

RichC2 10-30-24 08:12 PM

Re: High Potential --> 9.17.24 --> ABC/Hulu --> S: Kaitlin Olson

Yep it's a procedural, with the thinnest of background plot sewing the episodes together.
