Bob Barker - Dead at 99

'The Price is Right' Host Bob Barker Dead at 99 (tmz.com)

Bob Barker, the iconic American game show host and animal rights activist, has died ... TMZ has learned.
Barker died at his home Saturday morning in L.A. His rep tells TMZ Bob died of natural causes.
The longtime host of "The Price Is Right" actually got his start in game shows after legendary producer Ralph Edwards discovered him while listening to Bob's radio show and hired him for TV.
Barker started off hosting the iconic hit, "Truth or Consequences" back in 1956, on which he starred until 1975. He also hosted a number of other game shows and programs over the years, including "Dream Girl of '67," "Tattletales," 'Miss Universe,' and most famously ... "The Price is Right," which he produced and hosted until 2007.
:rip: to a television legend. Spent many a summer mornings watching TPIR.

He got the closest to 100 without going over. :( RIP Mr. Barker, I watched a hell of a lot of Price is Right as a kid.

:( RIP The Price is Right is one of the first TV shows I remember watching in my grandmother's kitchen. Standard fare as a kid when home sick from school.

I could never get into it without him.

Yep. It was a summer vacation tradition as a kid to watch The Price is Right in the early afternoon.

He was always his best when he got exasperated when contestants didn’t know what the hell they were doing.

I haven’t watched the show since he retired.

RIP Bob. And remember to have your pets spayed or neutered.

Bummer. Talked about him for the first time in ages yesterday while scrolling through FAST Channels on Plex (there's one that's nothing but old Price is Right episodes). Will have to watch one for old times sake.

Edit:  at new cars being $7357

Wow, I saw a tweet about Bob still being alive like 2 days ago. Nice jinx.

Edit : Here it is. 5 days ago.

I think it was on at 11:00 AM in our area, my sister and I would watch it every weekday all summer vacation. The silly thing in retrospect is that we were trying to play along at home when neither of us had any fucking idea how much groceries cost, we were kids.

I don’t know anyone my age who could tell a story of their childhood without mentioning watching The Price is Right with their grandmother.

Definitely. I remember going grocery shopping with my mom just so I could study prices for the show.

There was something about the way he comported himself as a host so that he seemed like a True Gentleman.

My brother and I used to watch Bob on TPIR most mornings during the summer times. :rip:

Just saw it on CNN. Can't believe he lived that long just one year short of 100.

One of the all time great game show hosts. Made it appear smooth and effortless and always ready with a funny quip when needed. It was always fun to see him ace the Hole in One game and then of course years later he had that memorable role in Happy Gilmore.

I feel he would have loved your post.

I loved Price is Right and he was a big reason. He will be missed.

Close here too! Watching it with my dad in the living room. I was only 3-4 years old. The colors and/or noises created memories. I don't have many memories from that age.

Seems to be happening more often with celebs/famous people over the last few years. Betty White, Hugh Downs, Billy Graham, Prince Philip - to name a few.

I watched a heck of a lot of Price is Right as a kid when I was stuck at home as a kid either being sick or on days there was no school during the week.

He's a legend when it comes to game shows. RIP. 99 is a hell of a long run.

I saw on ET that he never remarried after his wife passed away in 1981. But, he did have a girlfriend of 40 years until his passing. So I take some solace that he wasn't alone when he passed.

Nothing beat staying home sick from school in the late 90s/early 00s and getting to watch The Price Is Right while eating chicken

It was on at 10 AM so for a long time that was my standard wake-up time on days I didn’t have school. I’ve since gotten lazier and slept later however.

The Price is Right DVD set is great, just wish it included the original commercials.

Thanks for the entertainment, Bob. Best game show host ever.

I discovered the Barker Era TPiR channel on PlutoTV and Roku Channel about a month ago. Watched a lot of the 1980s classic episodes.

I can't even imagine how hard it must be to guess the MSRP of 1985 cars and dishwashers.

It is tough. But once you watch 3 or 4 episodes, you kind of figure it out. The hard ones are when they pull out Corvettes or Cadillacs for Golden Road or in a Showcase.

The funny thing is back then they really didn't do many Japanese/foreign cars (you would see Honda motorcycles but no Honda cars) - maybe an Izuzu now and then. Also Renault.

Holy shit that was funny.

Price is Right was such a fantastic game show. Everyone was really excited and happy, and everyone seemed to really support the other contestants. Bob Barker was a supremely fun host, a great personality, and was truly an enjoyment to watch. I'm glad he made it to 99, and hope his time after retirement was awesome.

Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99

Ten Chances was always one of the tougher games. Even when 4 of the 5 were for the car in the 80's But great clip. That's even post-Rod Roddy. Bob was so great. To put up with that.

I would love a YT loop of Bob trying to explain the Blank Check game.

I have fond memories watching The Price is Right, Barker had the perfect demeanor and charm for a game show host. Easily my favorite over Sajak and Trebek. The show was not the same once he left. Rest in peace to a legend.

I used to stay with my Grandparents during summer break when I was a kid. The Price is Right was must-see TV. Barker made the show fun for everyone. I haven't watched it since he retired. RIP.

I'm watching the tribute show now. Love the footage from the original "New" TPiR debut.

Spoiler:

The first car in the Any Number Game (a TPiR original) was 2,746 rotfl

In the first showcase, the 2nd contestant bid 2,500 and it was 2,504. Wow.

And so appropriate that his last appearance (April Fools 2015) was in Lucky 7 to give away a car. And of course they didn't give the contestant the outsider F-U numbers. rotfl

I was thinking maybe it was something they aired in the past and just repackaged with a new Drew Carey opening?

Or the $2000 cars back in 1973

Saw the special this morning...Amazing the first Showcase Showdown winner was only off by four bucks!

Barker made a reference to the previous TPIR in 1956.
I saw those shows on BUZZR, the show was so much different back then...
