Bob Barker - Dead at 99
'The Price is Right' Host Bob Barker Dead at 99 (tmz.com)
Bob Barker, the iconic American game show host and animal rights activist, has died ... TMZ has learned. Barker died at his home Saturday morning in L.A. His rep tells TMZ Bob died of natural causes. The longtime host of "The Price Is Right" actually got his start in game shows after legendary producer Ralph Edwards discovered him while listening to Bob's radio show and hired him for TV. Barker started off hosting the iconic hit, "Truth or Consequences" back in 1956, on which he starred until 1975. He also hosted a number of other game shows and programs over the years, including "Dream Girl of '67," "Tattletales," 'Miss Universe,' and most famously ... "The Price is Right," which he produced and hosted until 2007. |
Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
He got the closest to 100 without going over. :( RIP Mr. Barker, I watched a hell of a lot of Price is Right as a kid.

Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
:( RIP The Price is Right is one of the first TV shows I remember watching in my grandmother's kitchen. Standard fare as a kid when home sick from school.
I could never get into it without him. |
Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
Yep. It was a summer vacation tradition as a kid to watch The Price is Right in the early afternoon.
He was always his best when he got exasperated when contestants didn’t know what the hell they were doing. I haven’t watched the show since he retired. RIP Bob. And remember to have your pets spayed or neutered. |
Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
Bummer. Talked about him for the first time in ages yesterday while scrolling through FAST Channels on Plex (there's one that's nothing but old Price is Right episodes). Will have to watch one for old times sake.
Edit:  at new cars being $7357 |
Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
Wow, I saw a tweet about Bob still being alive like 2 days ago. Nice jinx.
Edit : Here it is. 5 days ago. |

Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
I don’t know anyone my age who could tell a story of their childhood without mentioning watching The Price is Right with their grandmother.

The silly thing in retrospect is that we were trying to play along at home when neither of us had any fucking idea how much groceries cost, we were kids.

Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
There was something about the way he comported himself as a host so that he seemed like a True Gentleman.
My brother and I used to watch Bob on TPIR most mornings during the summer times. :rip: |
Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
Happy Gilmore MUST deliver his eulogy!!

Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
Just saw it on CNN. Can't believe he lived that long just one year short of 100.
:rip: Bob Barker |
Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
One of the all time great game show hosts. Made it appear smooth and effortless and always ready with a funny quip when needed. It was always fun to see him ace the Hole in One game and then of course years later he had that memorable role in Happy Gilmore.

Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
I watched a heck of a lot of Price is Right as a kid when I was stuck at home as a kid either being sick or on days there was no school during the week.
He's a legend when it comes to game shows. RIP. 99 is a hell of a long run. I saw on ET that he never remarried after his wife passed away in 1981. But, he did have a girlfriend of 40 years until his passing. So I take some solace that he wasn't alone when he passed. https://people.com/who-is-nancy-burn...%20years%20old. |
Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
Nothing beat staying home sick from school in the late 90s/early 00s and getting to watch The Price Is Right while eating chicken
|
Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
It was on at 10 AM so for a long time that was my standard wake-up time on days I didn’t have school. I’ve since gotten lazier and slept later however.
The Price is Right DVD set is great, just wish it included the original commercials. |
Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
Thanks for the entertainment, Bob. Best game show host ever.
I discovered the Barker Era TPiR channel on PlutoTV and Roku Channel about a month ago. Watched a lot of the 1980s classic episodes. |
Re: Bob Barker - Dead at 99
I can't even imagine how hard it must be to guess the MSRP of 1985 cars and dishwashers.

The funny thing is back then they really didn't do many Japanese/foreign cars (you would see Honda motorcycles but no Honda cars) - maybe an Izuzu now and then. Also Renault. |
