Warrior Nun (Netflix Series)

Warrior Nun is a Netflix series that premiered in 2020. The second season was recently released. I didn't see a thread about the show, so I thought I'd start one. I just recently binged both seasons and thought it was a lot of fun. I'd had the show on my watchlist since season one first dropped, but never got around to it until now.

It's a fantasy/action/drama based on a comic book. The main character, Ava, joins a secret group of, yes, warrior nuns (The Order of the Cruciform Sword) who are based in Spain, which is where most of the show takes place, though there are also significant scenes at the Vatican. The nun fight demons and other enemies. There is some conflict from intrigue and power plays within the Catholic Church, and there is a "big bad" who is introduced in the first season. Season two is about the nuns and their allies trying to stop this threat.

It's a very fun show. The nuns are mostly young (late teens, early twenties) and they kick ass. You get to know their individual personalities more as the series progresses. "Ava" is the star of the show, but "Sister Beatrice" is my favorite.

The fight choreography is pretty good and the special effects are also good. The story and characters are engaging and it moves along a pretty brisk pace, so it's an easy binge. There is some closure to season 2, so if it doesn't get renewed you won't be left on a cliffhanger ending. But I am really hoping it gets a third season.

Yeah, I discovered that when I searched for pics of her to post in the "Most Attractive Person on TV" thread.

Wasn't she rumored to be dating Captain America, Chris Evans?

A shame, this was a good show and Netflix did pretty much nothing to promote it.

Yeah, I just saw that news elsewhere. Sucks.

No surprise but sucks as I really enjoyed the show. Timing is strange for the announcement coming right after Alba's Instagram fiasco but I think the decision was made weeks ago based on an article I read.

Maybe not quite dead? No details about anything yet, but it sounds like Warrior Nun is coming back! It has a pretty devoted fan base--the subreddit was very active and there were lots of petitions and other ways that fans kept pushing for a resurrection.. I hope this means another season, or at the very least a streaming movie.

I am going to be honest, because of the cancellation I did not bother to finish up the series, but my interest has been renewed and thank goodness Netflix does not automatically remove series from their streaming library when cancelled.

I would be more than happy with a movie that hopefully wraps up the Warrior Nun saga on a high note.

That’s great news. My wife and I really enjoyed it his show and it’s a shame it was shut down so quickly.

It's officially renewed for Season 3 and Season 2 was absolutely fantastic.

It hasn’t officially been anything yet.

Sources confirm to TVLine that while no deals are in place discussions are indeed underway to revive the series via a standalone movie or a shortened final season in order to give fans closure — but not on Netflix. It remains unclear where the project would potentially land.

The showrunner, Simon Barry, has tweeted a link to a site (https://www.warriornunsaved.com/) that has a countdown going, presumably when there will some announcement about how/where the show is returning. It currently stands at 44 days, which would be August 15.

Thought this comment was interesting.

“Some may ask, ‘Does this perhaps infer that there’s going to be a universe being launched of Warrior Nun, which could expand into films and TV series following characters that we already know?’ The answer to that question is yes. And there will be more details in the future,” he added.

All I know is Season 2 was terrific and really happy to see more.

I'm very happy to hear we will get three movies, and not just an animated series or new comic book series instead.

I'll confess I don't understand the business side of these things, but I don't understand how this show can go from canceled to 'we're launching a Warrior Nun universe!' I mean, I understand that the dedicated fan base brought it back from the dead, but that usually just gets you one more season (or in this case three movies). It doesn't tend to lead to multiple new shows and films. Of course, it benefits this guy to build hype, so maybe he's just doing that.

Anyway, looking forward to more WN!

I read the original creator/showrunner is not involved with the movies.

Re: Warrior Nun (Netflix Series)

Looks extremely unlikely now that there will be any movies continuing the series.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warrior_Nun_(TV_series)

On August 15, 2023 a revival as a trilogy of feature films was announced.[3] However, in April 2025, over a year and a half later, creator Simon Barry shared a "candid update" in which he stated that the company that owned the movie rights had done nothing and that he was not sure that the company even existed anymore due to the death of its CEO and reports of the company mismanaging funds.[4]
And apparently one of the producers who shepherded the tv series into being has also died.

Maybe someday the comic book will get a movie adaptation, unrelated to the tv show.
