This has got zero buzz compared to the first series and even critics that seemed to like the first season are dissing it although I expect that’s a side effect of Gaimangate. I will watch it eventually but have to admit it’s lost something for me in between seasons…

Just finished what they released so far. I really enjoyed it but man are they rushing through the story. (I've read the comic book series at least a half dozen times since the 90s)

I can't help but think that the young lady playing Joanna Constantine would have been perfect casting for Death, cute and perky.
I've watched everything so far except the "bonus" episode. Although it seems quite rushed and lots of story elements have been moved around or replaced, I really enjoyed it. As a long time reader and fan of the comic, this was probably as good as could be expected under the circumstances, most of my complaints or quibbles are rather minor.

I haven't watched the last bonus episode, but for the rest of the season, I'd agree that it was good, but rushed. I'm happy we got a conclusion instead of the show cancelled after season 1, or even cancelled after a season 2 that didn't reach the end and took its time with the stories, but it's a bit of a shame that this show didn't get room to breathe and be as expansive as it could've.

Yeah, definitely rushed. Felt more like movie versions of Season of Mists, Brief Lives, and The Kindly Ones broken up into tv episodes. Not ideal, but not bad. And better than nothing.
Really, really felt like they were trying to set up a Constantine/Corinthian spin-off.
And I'm one of those people who were annoyed that they replace John Constantine with Joanna Constantine, and the other day it struck me that they should have named the character Gemma instead of Joanna. Not only would it have made the change more palatable to oldhead Vertigo readers such as myself, but it would have differentiated the characters Johanna and Joanna more. A surprising number of people thought they were supposed to be the same person.

I was annoyed as well. I understand the possible trickiness with using another existing DC character in this but it would have been awesome if negotiations could have taken place and Matt Ryan could have played John Constantine in this. Gemma could have worked and I agree that the whole Johanna/Joanna issue probably caused confusion for viewers unfamiliar with the comic. And it's too bad they completely removed Thessaly from the story, Mad Hetty performing some of that character's actions instead seemed off to me.
Here's an interview where they mention that the Constantine/Corinthian team-up was because the CGI for Matthew was pricey.
https://www.polygon.com/tv/615889/sa...ne-corinthian/
“As you can imagine, every moment with Matthew is expensive,” Heinberg told Polygon in a Zoom interview. “As a fan and a reader, that arc was not my favorite, that Matthew was mistrustful of The Corinthian, and The Corinthian actually kind of murders Matthew at a certain point. Dream saves him. We were looking for more places to put [Johanna Constantine actor] Jenna Coleman, and it was Neil who suggested, ‘Why don’t we team up Johanna Constantine present-day with The Corinthian?’ Which I thought was an amazing idea, and we just ran with it...."
“In the comic, the new Corinthian is — apart from being a slave to his nature — a more heroic figure, and so it just felt logical to me to have him fall madly in love with [Constantine], and for her to resist because of what he is, but then to realize that Dream has sort of given her this gift, in that she can't hurt him,” Heinberg said. “They're perfect for each other in this weird way.”...“Boyd really embraced it as well,” Heinberg said. “It was so different from what Boyd was able to do in season 1. [...] They really got on and enjoyed each other, and their chemistry was fantastic.”
The Corinthian and Constantine worked so well together that Heinberg wanted to make them the stars of a spin-off series. The Sandman is ending with season 2, but Heinberg also had ideas for a season 3 where Dream’s allies, the fairy Nuala (Ann Skelly) and librarian Lucienne (Vivienne Acheampong), raise Daniel. Heinberg also imagined a version of the series that hewed closer to the anthology nature of the comics, and devoted three-episode arcs to Dream’s siblings Desire (Mason Alexander Park) and Despair (Donna Preston).
“I think the viewership numbers would have to be off the charts [to justify a spin-off].” Heinberg said. “It's a very expensive show. There's no version of the show that isn't expensive. But I think part of the beauty of what the comic book is, is that you could spin off almost any of these characters. They're all very fully realized characters.”

I watched the final bonus episode today, and it was nice as a standalone story. It really shows what a "Sandman Presents" anthology series could be like.

I'm not sure how true this is, but back around the time the Sandman comic wrapped up, the comic book store scuttlebutt was that Gaiman was going to write miniseries based on the rest of the Endless, presumably showing things like what happened to the first Despair and how Delight became Delirium. Closest things we got in those three decades were the Endless Nights graphic novel and Sandman Overture that showed the events leading up to Dream's capture.
True or not, considering the current situation, I don't think Gaiman will ever write Sandman-related or anything for DC again. (And it didn't seem like he was overly eager to do it before the rape stuff came out.)
