He's just criticizing the accuracy of the dialogue that's taking place. He's just calling them out that they should actually do the legwork so the mandarin makes sense. It has nothing to do with Ethan Hawke it has nothing to do with white people speaking mandarin like the headline seems to want to make it sound like. He's just saying do a better job.
