I knew watching 3 seasons of Love Island would pay off eventually.

For that season it doesn't make sense CBS would cast Mtv challenge vets for a show where BB/Survivor/TAR or Love Island viewers who watch CBS would see them lose to people who have never appeared on a CBS show even if their is crossover somewhat. |

They would essentially have a free pass to the finals because it would take a special set of circumstances for anyone to take a shot at them. They also have an advantage in the fact is they know all the hacks how to maximize performance on daily challenges that you only get from the trial and error of competing on said show and can't really get from just watching a past season your tv. It's not just a coincidence any time noobies appears on the challenge they almost always are stomped by the vets, the same thing also occurs in BB and Survivor and other compeition shows. Even in something like TAR where there is little strategic element compared to the complexities of BB /Survivor/Love Island and The Challenge the TAR people dominated when their was an TAR season which was TAR all stars vs BB/Survivor all stars.

This premieres tonight on CBS at 930 Eastern/830 Central. I hope it's good.

If you have YouTube TV, episode 1 has already been dropped on demand. You have to watch it with commercials, but you can watch it now if you want.

Re: The Challenge: USA (CBS) - premieres 7/6/22
So even though I plan to watch this I haven't been paying much attention to the lead up for the show. Is there a larger reason they put "USA" in the title? I assume it likely means there will be other versions around the world? Would those air on US television as well? And is it known if there will be a "World Championship" season as well? I ask because as I was fast-forwarding through a random show a commercial for this came up and I swear I saw a glimpse of CT flash by towards the end, but it didn't really explain why he was shown (assuming it was him).
A path leading towards true Challenge vets appearing would give me a whole new level of interest in this given I'm not overly optimistic about the "USA" season given the cast and being produced for airing on a major network. Anyway, I assume you guys probably know so I'll be lazy and throw it out to the thread.. |

The CBS edition of The Challenge will bring together prior reality stars from the network’s franchises (Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race) and pit them in a series of competitions. The winners of the CBS show will then take part in Paramount+’s The Challenge: War of the Worlds, which will bring together winners from versions of the show in Argentina, Australia and the U.K. to crown the first ever Challenge world champs. |
Re: The Challenge: USA (CBS) - premieres 7/6/22
Derp, thanks.
But do we know if they will bring in Challenge vets/all-stars for the world champs round? It would explain why (I think) I saw CT in the commercial. |

Got off my lazy butt and did some typing. From what I can dig up (as you said nothing has been filmed so subject to change) the intent is that The Challenge: Global Championship will combine Challenge veterans with the champions of the four seasons. The commercial I saw (with TJ narrating) showed past clips of CT, Kam, Kyle, and Laurel. I assume since they weren't named they are only possible participants, and were thrown in to get fans of the vets (like me) interested. It worked. Sadly, the Global Championship season will only be available on Paramount+ and not until some time in 2023 since it is unclear if the other three seasons have even been filmed yet. At least being on Paramount+ removes my concerns over having a season built for CBS. |
Re: The Challenge: USA (CBS) - premieres 7/6/22
I suspect people will play way more cutthroat then the regular challenge, for 90% of the cast they will go into this thinking this might be only chance to compete. An MTV Challenge season has the meta narrative of if I take my shot at a CT/Banana's or Kaycee etc then I am marked man/woman on my next returnee season so I have to be careful how I navigate betraying them or anyone else. MTV Challenge they are always playing with future seasons in mind as part of their strategy. The Love Island people for example will come into this knowing they are not gonna get another chance on a Challenge invite from CBS because that show is not even part of CBS management anymore.

Re: The Challenge: USA (CBS) - premieres 7/6/22
I stayed up late to watch this tonight after I got home from work. Overall, I liked it. I’m not a fan of the house. Paramount spent a bunch of money to build that house in Argentina and they are filming The Challenge USA, UK, Australia, Argentina and The Challenge 38 (MTV) there it reminds me a lot of the bunker from Total Madness. I think they could have done better.
The cast is huge and it’s hard to keep track of everyone, but most Challenge seasons start out like that. I’m rooting for Tyson, Angela, Cayla and Desi. I don’t remember Desi from Survivor, but she is stunning. The Love Islanders seem lost. They are going to be eliminated quickly. |
Re: The Challenge: USA (CBS) - premieres 7/6/22
It was a bit jarring watching a cast of complete rookies. I do not watch any of the shows they are pooling from, so I am entirely unfamiliar with anyone. Surprisingly, I did not find most of them to be annoying. The Love Island people do look like they will struggle, but the girl who got eliminated did seem to step it up when called to action.
Indeed, there are a lot of really good-looking women on this cast. Interesting that they will re-use the same location for filming. It is actually a good idea from a budget perspective. I wish they'd release some more info on the format of the World Championship. |
Re: The Challenge: USA (CBS) - premieres 7/6/22
I just hope they don't use the same location for every season going forward. I liked that they traveled to different locations each season.

Re: The Challenge: USA (CBS) - premieres 7/6/22
Here's an article about it: https://www.reuters.com/business/med...ng-2022-02-15/
"ViacomCBS is betting that inexpensive content that can be localized for different markets will help it compete in a global challenge of its own: the race by U.S. streaming services to claim subscribers outside the United States, a market that is becoming more important as streaming services mature. Production costs for unscripted television are only 10% to 30% those of a scripted series, and the shows are easier to localize for global markets, according to McCarthy. Streaming rivals including Netflix Inc have been pushing into the genre in recent years. To further reduce costs, ViacomCBS will produce all four international versions of “War of the Worlds” - in which contestants vie for prize money through a series of puzzles and physical challenges - and the final global competition at the same location in Argentina. Production costs are two-thirds what they would be if each of the four broadcast channels produced them independently, McCarthy said." |

Also: https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/the...tv-1235300108/ MTV has greenlit “The Challenge” for seasons 38 and 39, Variety exclusively confirms. T.J. Lavin is set to return as host for both seasons.
Currently, production is underway for Season 38 at MTV Entertainment Studios’ global production hub in Argentina. The cast, themes and titles will be announced at a later date. They did an interview with TJ for our midday talk show yesterday at the tv station that I work at and he was still in Argentina working on The Challenge 38. Re: The Challenge: USA (CBS) - premieres 7/6/22
Man, TJ Lavin has got to be making bank for being amazing at hosting the various Challenges. And it sure beats being dropped on your head for a living. Good for him.

Re: The Challenge: USA (CBS) - premieres 7/6/22
First Challenge I've watched. It was ok. I'll keep with it for now. But just like with Survivor and Big Brother, for me, the actual challenges don't really hold my attention. Much more interested in the social game aspect. But I'm familiar with enough of this cast to stick with it.

I've always appreciated the kick he gets out of the trivia and the "eating" challenges. I'm glad they kept him for the CBS show. I could easily have seen them getting someone with more name recognition for the network audience. |

They could have probably gotten Jonny Moseley. (R.I.P. Dave Mirra)

Re: The Challenge: USA (CBS) - premieres 7/6/22
They are airing uncensored versions on Paramount Plus if you want to watch it there instead of on CBS.
|
Re: The Challenge: USA (CBS) - premieres 7/6/22
Paramount Plus is the better way to watch this. There was a f bomb when I watched today.
Tiffany gassed out hard during the elimination. James and Cayla looked like they were having a great time at spin class. Tyson is a beast. I think he would be destroyed by a heavier guy in a hall brawl or pole wrestle, but he's built for a final. He's an endurance beast. |
