the WKRP episode where he gets quicker and more agile the more he drinks is pure gold.

I started watching Head of the Class just this week on hbo max.
Always feel a little bit guilty when you watch something or listen to music and the person dies the next few days.

I was a bit young for WKRP but was vaguely aware of him. It was Head of the Class where he really shined for me.

Too young for WKRP but really enjoyed Head of the Class. Didn't realize he didn't have many positive things to say about that show until I started revisiting the show on HBO MAX and reading up on it.

He played one of the hippies living at the commune in BILLY JACK. He and another hippie do an improv of two stoners getting pulled over by the cops.

He was the scheming chauffeur in Private Lessons, blackmailing the maid to seduce the kid and then fake her death. Always wondered what he thought about that movie.

I only saw WKRP in repeats occasionally, but I was familiar with his Johnny Fever DJ character. I became more familiar with Hesseman on Head of the Class and a few movies & TV guest appearances he was on. I can't say I was a huge fan of him, but enjoyed a lot of his work.
He was amusing in Police Academy 2 as Lassard's brother.

I love Howard Hesseman. I was familiar with him from WKRP, of course, but I also saw him on One Day At A Time late in that series' run. I also watched Head of the Class when it was first on solely because he was the star of the show.
I thought it was fun that he played the radio station manager in That 70's Show. Back in the radio business! Perfect symmetry!
I didn't realize he was 81. I thought he was a couple years younger than my dad, but, apparently not.

I definitely know him best from WKRP, but he also had a brief part in This Is Spinal Tap.

I was gonna say we won't get his SNL episode in the repeats NBC usually does on Saturdays, because his was an Ebersole era episode, but with the Olympics on we wouldn't have gotten it anyway.

I wonder if, once Lorne retires of kicks the bucket, they'll finally be able to show some old SNLs from the early 80s.
A lot of us were introduced to the show and grew up on the Eddie Murphy years.

For those who get the Decades channel over-the-air or otherwise there's a WKRP marathon Saturday from noon to midnight. Word of caution: unless you record it you'll be forced to endure endless Medicare Hotline ads with Jimmy Walker & Joe Namath and pleas for money for St. Judes kids and suffering animals so your call.

Watching the Decades channel marathon and some of the original music seems to have been returned. I know they worked out the music rights for the complete DVD set, but I didn't know it also covered the syndicated episodes.
