How I Met Your Mother.
Are we supposed to discuss why or just list them?

Star Trek Enterprise. We just skip it in rewatches.

Granted I didn't watch Enterprise "live" But I still didn't know about the series finale. BUT I don't quite get all the hate that the finale gets because the real Enterprise finale was the prior episode. It wrapped up the story nicely. I saw that episode as a kind of bonus episode and a farewell to the TNG era shows.

Not that it's considered a classic TV show or anything but Ellen's finale was a bigger "fuck you" to the audience than Seinfeld ever was.

Re: Worst series finales?
My first thought was Lost, but really it wasn’t the finale. It was pretty much that whole final season that was the letdown.
HIMYM is another obvious candidate. I think a lot of us saw that coming, but man what a stupid ending.
All this being said, I’d rather have a bad series finale as opposed to no series finale in the case of cancellation.

Seinfeld was the most disappointing for me. I was never much of a fan of How I Met your Mother, but I know that finale was bad as well. There was really no way that show could have a good finale though. The premise of the show was supposed to be about how the lead character met the children's mother. How he met her could have been done in one episode, not 20+ episodes over ten seasons. it basically became how he met their mother and the ten years of his life before he met her.

It had them get home to the Alpha Quadrant/ Earth. That was the driving force of the whole show. They didn't show any reunions with family and friends that were left behind and how they got reintegrated, but the alternate timeline at the beginning of the episode covered that in a round about way.

A lot of folks cared for the characters. We had accepted the stories weren't ever going to be consistently great, but we kept watching for the characters. And not showing the crew meeting with their friends and family was a kick in the teeth to the fans. At least the novels gave us some closure (along with promoting Harry Kim to full lieutenant).

Let's be honest about one thing here : The knives were out for LOST, HIMYM and especially Game of Thrones. No regular viewers went into those finales expecting to have their socks blown off. We knew how those final seasons were shaping up and many were ready to pounce the moment those finales aired. I might put HIMYM in a different category because so much of the series was geared towards a finale that was inelegant and disappointing, but LOST and Game of Thrones weren't so awful as single TV episodes as they were confirmation that the series weren't going to wrap up as nicely as we hoped.
I would look more towards Seinfeld and MASH as examples of finales that people watched with a lot of goodwill and anticipation but were shockingly bad and disappointing in their execution.

I'm still not sure why the negative reaction to the Seinfeld finale. I enjoyed it at the time and the multiple rewatches of the series I've done since haven't changed my opinion on it.

The M*A*S*H finale is one that has actually stood the test of time. When my wife and I did a re-watch a few years back of the whole series on DVD, we noticed the quality declining in the last few seasons but the finale was an incredible topper to the entire series. We're in season 10 of another rewatch now and I know that finale is coming, I'll be aware of how it lands this time, but I don't think I'll be changing my mind.

Lost does belong near the top of the list.
