Yeah, they shouldn't be the punchline. I mean, they can be part of a joke as a character in the story, but jokes about "guys wearing dresses" is just lazy and unnecessary.

Instead of simply editing my post, I wanted to do a thread bump and note that I was able to binge the entire 10 episodes yesterday afternoon after I got off from work. The show is easy to watch, nothing earth-shattering, but also the type of show where you could have come up with a different name for the show and been none of the worse for wear. Other than Robin Givens (who only has what amounts to a few cameo appearances in a handful of eps), I believe no one really recognizable from the OG show is in the reboot.

The thing is, even if you had no clue who was on the original Saved By The Bell show, it would become immediately obvious looking the cast up on IMDB that most of the OG cast of SBTB ended up in the latest version of the show, so calling it anything other than Saved By The Bell would not make sense. However, Head of the Class could have had a fairly generic title applied to the show and no one would have been up in arms on the internet (or maybe I should say most viewers would not be up in arms) claiming that the show they just watched was Head of the Class with a different name.

It was pointed out in the comments section for the show on The AV Club that the cast on this show works, and has pretty good chemistry with each other, which is true. Also, for the most part the kids in class look like the age of kids who would be in Junior/High School instead of a bunch of kids who would only plausibly still be in High School if they were held back a few grades.

I'm curious what their criteria was for cancellation considering they're nowhere near Netflix's glut of shows.

Because no one is talking about it within weeks of it's release. And probably views as well.

They and Netflix have people who monitor social media activity on streaming shows like this. If no one is talking about it ASAP, then that's a good sign there's no buzz and no one is watching.

I know, there's just too many shows to keep track of and most simply can't watch all new shows right away these days.

Cancelled.. big shocker there.
Absolutely no one asked for a reboot of this show. I'm sure 99% of the people who gave it a shot didn't even know it was a reboot.
