The Fall of The House of Usher (Netflix) - from Mike Flanagan - premieres 10/12/23
Mike Flanagan, creator of The Haunting anthology series, has set up his latest Netflix project.
The man behind the recently launched horror miniseries Midnight Mass has scored a series order for limited drama The Fall of the House of Usher.
The project is based on multiple works from Edgar Allan Poe. Although the streamer did not release plot details, The Fall of the House of Usher is a short story written by Poe. First published in 1893, it features themes of madness, family, isolation and metaphysical identities.
The series, which was created by Flanagan, who will also direct, is exec produced by the auteur along with his Intrepid Pictures partner Trevor Macy as well as Emmy Grinwis and Michael Fimognari. Intrepid Pictures’ Melinda Nishioka will co-executive produce the project.
Fimognari and Flanagan will each direct four episodes.
The eight-part limited series is unrelated to Flanagan’s previous work and is a standalone story.
The Fall of the House of Usher marks the fifth series for Intrepid Pictures under its overall deal following The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and upcoming series The Midnight Club.

I'm a fan of Flangan's work so can't wait. Wondering he cast same actors he use, maybe Henry Thomas as Roderick Usher and Kate Siegel as Madeline Usher?

Fresh off “Midnight Mass,” Netflix will be reteaming with Mike Flanagan for “The Fall of the House of Usher,” a just-announced new series based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe.
The limited series from Intrepid Pictures is “based on multiple works from Poe.” 8 episodes have been ordered. Flanagan and Michael Fimognari will each direct four episodes.
What exactly can we expect from “The Fall of the House of Usher”? Speaking with Bloody Disgusting’s The Boo Crew Podcast this week, Flanagan gave us a sneak preview.
“A lot of the stuff I do is a slow burn. The Fall of the House of Usher is a brush fire,” Flanagan teases. “It is an explosion. It is as aggressive and rock ‘n roll and over the top and just violent and insane and horrific as anything I have ever done… by a lot. We’re gonna pull all the all stars from the Intrepid group of actors and some great new faces and we’re just gonna fucking jam.”
He continues, “We want just buckets of blood pouring out of the ceiling on page two. And we’re just gonna go ballistic. And we’re gonna do it all to the music of one of the most intensely effective gothic horror writers. This is what we’ve been craving. A chance to just go ballistic on something. The entire catalogue of Poe is wide open. It’s all public domain. We can cherry pick whatever we want and put it into one giant, crazy, heavy metal riff that’s just blood-soaked and wild. In a sense, we get to blow off steam after five very emotional years. And it lets me play in a corner of the genre I haven’t gotten to play in in a long time. It’s a relief really. It’s fun to have fun.”
“We start shooting in January,” Flanagan adds. “They’re gonna announce the cast at some point soon. The cast is absurd. And ridiculously exciting.”
In other words, while previous Flanagan shows for Netflix, including “Hill House,” “Bly Manor” and now this year’s “Midnight Mass,” focused intensely on character-driven emotional horror, “The Fall of the House of Usher” is going to be an entirely different brand of Mike Flanagan Horror, favoring over the top violence and Edgar Allan Poe insanity. We. Cannot. Wait.

re: The Fall of The House of Usher (Netflix) - from Mike Flanagan - premieres 10/12/23
The Flanagan-verse has added a certain Jedi to its ranks: Star Wars vet Mark Hamill has joined Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Netflix series The Fall of the House of Usher, the streamer confirmed on Thursday.
Initially ordered at Netflix in October, The Fall of the House of Usher is described as “an epic tale of greed, horror and tragedy” that will serve as a “modern remix” of several Edgar Allan Poe works. (The Fall of the House of Usher was itself a Poe short story first published in the 1800s.)
Not much is known about Hamill’s role, other than that his character is “surprisingly at home in the shadows.” But he’ll be joined in the limited series by four more newly announced cast members: Carla Gugino, a veteran of Flanagan’s Netflix projects, in an undisclosed role; Oscar nominee Frank Langella as Roderick Usher, the patriarch of the Usher dynasty; Mary McDonnell (Major Crimes) as Madeline Usher, Roderick’s twin sister and the hidden hand of the Usher dynasty; and Carl Lumbly (Alias) as Poe’s recurring detective C. Auguste Dupin.
The Fall of the House of Usher will span eight episodes, with Flanagan and frequent collaborator Michael Fimognari each directing four installments. Flanagan also will write the scripts. The limited series will mark Flanagan and producing partner Trevor Macy’s fifth project at Netflix, following The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and the forthcoming Midnight Club, an adaptation of Christopher Pike’s young adult novel.

Frank Langella has been fired for unacceptable conduct on set. His character will be recast and scenes reshot. They are halfway through production.

That's a bummer to hear. Always thought he was cool. Having said that I still enjoy The Ninth Gate which has him, Depp and directed by Polanski.

Wow, he’s the lead. That’s no insignificant reshoot.
He was so fantastic on The Americans. Wonder if this is new sort of behavior or just no longer tolerated.

I can't imagine what Langella could have done other than some sort of sexual harassment.

As for what exactly happened, a source close to production tells us the 84-year-old actor allegedly made an inappropriate joke that was sexual in nature. Our sources also say in the context of his performance, possibly during rehearsal, he touched the leg of a female costar, and further drew attention to the action when he jokingly said something like "Did you like that?"
The show has been filming in British Columbia, Canada ... we reached out to the local police department who says nothing has been reported to them involving Frank.

^ And I'll assume if he did say/touch a female it was either Flanagan's (I forget her name but she's always a lead in his films) wife or Carla. All assumptions on my part of course, but that's what I gather from the primary casting.

Well, that seems like a solid replacement for Langella's character. Actors should be much more careful in these modern times, because young or old, Legendary or not (and to be fair, I place Langella in the Legendary bucket of actors in Hollywood), there is always someone waiting in the wings that can replace you.

Who played his wife? If it was Kate Seigel, she has a lot of hard nos on what she does in scenes. She doesn't do kissing or sex scenes. I could see her really getting upset. She talked about it on Inside of You (Michael Rosenbaum's podcast).

If they rehearsed the scene and blocked it out with an intimacy coordinator and discussed what was going to happen and where touching could occur, I feel the actress has a right to be upset about being touched in areas that she didn't agree to be touched.

I’m sure there’s more to the story. I would like to hear from the actress, but if someone touched me where I didn’t want to be touched I would be mad about it.

“Intimacy coordinator” - Jesus.
In my opinion, if you’re an actor you have to allow for some spontaneity. I’m not saying you let someone finger bang you or feel you up, but if your sensitivity is so high you can only bear pre-planned touching, perhaps you are the person who shouldn’t be acting.

Just read Langella’s account. If that is true, fuck Netflix and the whole production. I really wanted to see this but won’t bother if his version is indeed accurate.

So he touched har pants during a would-be intimate scene? Give me a fucking break. Kate's done sex scenes before, without clothing and way more touching. If she's this uncomfortable now, with that type of scene or Frank as a person, she should have said flat out no to the part/scene*.
I guess that's what we get in a world where words and silence can be violence, but actual violence isn't always and touching someone while faking sex is abuse.
* If Frank's account is true. Which I'm tempted to believe it is. The guy has been acting for over 50 years, in over 100 productions and not a single issue mentioned before. I'm also tempted to say I'm done with Flanagan until he stops hiring his fucking spouse for every god damn project.

Yeah both this and the Bill Murray thing are really nutty over-reactions (if true as the men describe). I’m all for safe boundaries but this sounds absurd. Netflix is hemorrhaging money and they green-light reshooting this?
