Loki (S1E01) -- "Glorious Purpose" -- 6/9/21

Loki features the God of Mischief as he steps out of his brother’s shadow in a new series that takes place after the events of Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame. Tom Hiddleston returns as the title character, joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant. Kate Herron directs Loki, and Michael Waldron is head writer.
I'll update if they announce an episode title.

6 episodes first season. Episodes drop on Wednesdays.

I like it better when they drop them all at once but I guess this makes them easier to discuss here. :)

iO9 reviewed the first two and said they are great. Said the back and forth between Wilson and Hiddleston is fantastic.

Dropping on Wednesdays? What is this lunacy!

Good stuff. I liked the humor and that it was kind of dark as well. Good to have asshole and snarky Loki again.

 at DB Cooper

That was some pretty powerful stuff having Loki see the other version of him and what his fate ends up like. Some really solid range of emotions.

This was a fantastic start.

Loved Casey... “What is a fish?” 😂

Very well written start to the series. The banter was great. The premise is implausibly plausible and will no doubt double back on itself a several times.

It is going to be a wild ride.

Glad to have a midweek release on these episodes.

This is fantastic. As I said before, this very much looks and feels like Legion did. Similar aesthetic. Owen Wilson is great in this.

There was also an opportunity for a line of dialogue that could’ve mentioned Coulsen surviving the events of NYC. But… nope! Keeping those Marvel Television productions at bay!

I love how everyone is condescending towards Loki.

Man, time plots usually get very convoluted and annoying for me, but this was still fun. Looking forward to future episodes.

Loved it. Although, it's definitely not subtle at how hard they're aping Terry Gilliam and Brazil. From the German Expressionism, Dutch angles, production design, dated but futuristic technology, etc.

For sure. I kept thinking of that the whole time.

I enjoyed it.

Wasn’t that
Spoiler:
Kang the Conqueror in the video Loki watched? Wonder if they’ll introduce him here since he’s supposed to appear in the next Ant-Man and the Wasp.

That 60's era educational animated video was hilarious. So well done.
Really dug this first episode though I really have no idea where the show is headed.

I said it felt like I was watching "Brazil" once we got to the TVA but of course no one I was with had any idea what I was talking about. It's a mash-up of "Brazil," "MiB," and "Legends of Tomorrow."

Love that it took a quick line of dialog to disspell the time traveling of the Avengers and stops the questions coming with the Eternals about sitting on the sidelines. Now I'll have to go back to watch Dark World.

That was a lot of fun. Marvel gets a bad rap for being an inch deep and a mile wide but wow, what a wonderful, wonderful mile wide it is. This series is clearly upping the ante and is the biggest bridge to the next phase we've seen yet. Everyone has having a lot of fun in this, too, and that rubs off on you as a viewer. I'm definitely in!

Re: Loki (S1E01) -- "Glorious Purpose" -- 6/9/21

Loved the first episode, agree on the Terry Gilliam influence. I do hope that this doesn't end with Loki coming back into the fold as that lowers the sacrifice in Infinity War, but this is the comic book world and that happens all the time.

I did have to laugh because about 20 minutes into the episode my wife gets on her phone and exclaims "oh my god, that Owen Wilson, I didn't even recognize him". I'm pretty sure they could put him in full makeup and there is no way I wouldn't be able to recognize that nose and voice.

I love how Loki just in non-plussed when he sees Ant-Man kick the case with the Tesseract. I also liked how he couldn't believe there was no magic when he saw the advanced level of technology they had, yet I always thought Asgard was just an advanced level of science as well.

Re: Loki (S1E01) -- "Glorious Purpose" -- 6/9/21

this didn't grab me from the start like the others did. sure, Hiddelston is incredible as this character, Wilson is so easy to like and really doesn't seem like he's acting ever. just so breezy and fun, all the time. the reveal wasn't anything earth shattering...
Spoiler:
an evil Loki...ooooo!

like we've never seen something like that.

and these all powerful time beings that control everything. i mean half of it i didn't get or buy and don't really know what it means in the what i witnessed in the previous MCU movies. i dunno.

i will of course keep watching. i mean it's only 5 more eps and i do enjoy the characters, but everything else was pretty underwhelming. i know, i'm in the very small minority, but that's how i felt. who knows what ep. 2 will bring...

Re: Loki (S1E01) -- "Glorious Purpose" -- 6/9/21

I don't understand how Loki broke some time travel rule. He didn't even do any time travelling. He just grabbed the Tesseract when he had the chance and did what he would have normally done. It's not his fault the Avengers were messing with the timeline. I guess they were OK with Steve Rogers going back in time and living in the past because it was supposed to happen. Justice for Loki!

I guess this show is good if you like people sitting around and talking, or if you want to see them reduce one of their best villains to a crying weakling.
