I guess I now know who the drummer thinks broke up the band).

I've read it was because the Pistols were at first denied visas due to their criminal histories, until Warner put up a one million dollar bond for a two week visa. By the time that was all worked out they had missed their initial US tour dates in December so couldn't be on SNL as planned, and instead started their disastrous tour at the beginning of January. That sucks.

I hope maybe later this season James Austin Johnson can pull out his Harrison Ford and Billy Bob Thornton impressions.

His Kamala is better than Maya Rudolph.

I guess after the 50 special, I am going to have to sign up for a month of Peacock to watch all these specials and documentaries.

I don't watch SNL these days, so I have no idea how old it is, but I just watched the Royal Family Doctor sketch with Martin Short and Bill Hader. Absolutely hilarious.

SNL Character Playoff Bracket

Gene Frankel and Matt the Radar Technician shouldnt be in that tournament. They're both from funny sketches but (I believe) one time characters and Gene isn't even the funniest part of the sketch he's in.

I'd pick Stefon from the left side and Wayne & Garth from the right side, and then vote for Wayne's World cuz they made like the only funny SNL movie in the last 40 years.

No Coneheads? No Father Guido? Gumby? Buckwheat?

Definitely Stefon on the left side (love that character) and damn it's tough, but I'd have to go with Mister Robinson from the right side.

I go Roseanne Roseannadanna or Unfrozen Caveman lawyer from the right and don’t really care from the left.

Who is your favorite character not listed?

Although I couldn’t argue putting him in over the aforementioned coneheads or gumby Id go with Drunk Uncle. Love me some Drunk Uncle.

Wow. So many.

Emily Litella, Irving Mainway, Velvet Jones, Leon Phelps (shut up, I like that sketch), Nat X, Evelyn Quince, the girl-watchers, the Jersey Guy, Lothar of the Hill People, Linda Richman.

I'm sure I'll think of more.

There is a red carpet show before the 50th anniversary.

Not living up to the renegade punk spirit of the show when it airs on a Sun and not Sat and it is live at 5pm Pacific.

Not that I would watch it when the sun is still out . -rolleyes-

Going back to Round 1 though, I'm a bit bummed that Matt Foley beat Roseanne Roseannadanna. I'm sure it's recency bias, but Radner came up with a new rambling story each time she played the character. Matt Foley was funny AF the first time out, then it became just a question of what table or prop he was gonna destroy as he shouted "I live in a VAN down by the river" over and over again.

A shame Kaitlyn was not included in the beginning rounds at least.

Yeah, Matt Foley was a predictable character after the first appearance. Farley's energy and commitment made it a great performance, but not a great recurring character like some of the others. But I can't fault people for voting for the dead guy. :rip: Tommy Boy

I'm okay with Stefon "taking it all."

JeffTheAlpaca 02-07-25 08:58 PM

Re: SNL General Discussion Thread

Yes but it that kind of a recency bias since maybe a lot of the younger people that voted might have missed the older classic characters
