Anyone heard of this? This is a new Netflix fantasy series that premiered yesterday. It's the #1 trending show on Netflix today.

It's a super short season at only 6 episodes.

I know of you guys simply can't keep up with all these new Netflix originals, but just thought I would throw this out there since it's a fantasy genre series.

Seems kind of like Harry Potter meets Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Apparently, it was based on a Nickelodeon cartoon, although I've never heard of it. Looks interesting from the trailer.

It's also rated TV-MA, so here's hoping they don't pull back on the action. The redhead lead is hot.

Basically seems like a really cheesy low budget Harry Potter wannabe from the trailers. These fairies ain't even got wings.

What reason is it rated TV-MA?

It is. I was going to watch it with the kids but noped out with that rating. Where's the tv ma adaptation of Totally Spies?

My 15 year daughter has been begging me to watch Power... needless to say. She hasn't watched it. =)

Watched the first episode and I think I'm going to stick with it the Dolby Vision / Atmos is great. There are some suggested scenarios along with some strong and bloody violence. It would be too intense for younger viewers.

Also, since it's sourced from YA material, the leads are are all supposed to be like 16 or something. The lead actress is like 22 or 23 in real, so. Yes, I know this is nothing new, but I was surprised.

Just finished this. It's got strong 2010ish CW vibes (think Vampire Diaries, Secret Circle). A little too exposition-y, and it felt like half a season. I liked the cast/characters, though. Hope we get another season. Doesn't add anything new to the Supernatural High School genre, but I'm a sucker for this kinda shit. I enjoyed it.

I am with Fist of Doom Jr. in that I found myself really enjoying this show. I actually have come to appreciate that at only 6 episodes it made it possible to watch it all over the course of a weekend. What really surprised me is how well they developed the relationship between the girls who were all living together. The Princess roommate could have been the cliched mean girl type but instead I ended up really enjoying the journey her character experiences as the episodes progressed. I feel they did a great job casting and the redhead does ultimately get a scene where she has wings, but in the context of the moment it really works.

Even the dudes on the show experienced some character growth. I am also a sucker for stuff like this and would be very happy if we get a part 2 or season 2, and I believe it hit #1 on the Netflix top 10 this past weekend so that usually bodes well. I think word of mouth could help keep people interested in the show as it will probably need to stay in the top 10 again this weekend for Netflix to really pay attention to the show.

Fyi...for some reason I also thought this was based on something geared towards the younger set but it is definitely for a mature audience (language, violence, some bloody kills get a close up, smoking), but the show is very chaste...if you are watching thinking you are going to see a bunch of pretty good looking women show a bunch of skin, yeah...not in this show.

I have not paid attention to the critics as this show snuck up on me so I did not pay attention to it online prior to watching but I am always curious if it was trashed on-line or others enjoyed it for what it is.

ETA: The on-line reviews are somewhat negative but I never paid attention to the source material and just went in cold which worked for me. One review savaged the show for white washing a couple of main characters, but again if there was any controversy surrounding this show I was not aware of it until now.

I just finished it and it was pretty good. Some cheesiness at times, but it's pretty fun. They did set it up for season 2, so hopefully they will continue it.

I quite enjoyed this. Didn't even realize the lead was Dorcas, doh!

I liked that there was a good amount of grey as the story unfolded. It had a good pace and very little filler. Cars bothered me a little bit I mean this is supposed to be another world. But whatever.

Disliked the soundtrack and the new trend of all modern music for stories that to me would benefit from something more in line with the setting, but it is a big trend.

Should really be a college, no one even looks remotely close to high school aged.

Would watch Season 2. It hit #1 and doesn't really look expensive so would think it would get another season, but they cancellled Teenage Bounty Hunters so who knows?

That is great news about the renewal, even though it will be quite some time before we see season 2. It sounds like the core cast will be intact and I forgot that it was only a 6 ep season 1 so getting more eps in season 2 makes it worth the wait.

Just checked this out over the course of the week. I’ll echo what others said, it doesn’t offer anything particularly new to the genre, but it’s done well.

There are a few cheesy bits that almost feel cliche, but overall it pushes past those pretty quickly. In fact when you expect it to bob if weaves. Also, similar to early Vampire Diaries, the plots move pretty quick.

The only small negative I’d give is sense of time across the 6 episodes. A small montage or two showing them going about classes would have helped. You’d think the season was a few weeks, but pretty sure it happened over months.

Also, so big changes at the end of the last episode. It’s going to be interesting to see where that goes. There were also references to other forces and a war, which helps build into a larger mythology.

Whoever commented on no fairy wings, that point is directly addressed by the characters! So the writers are keenly aware.

I'm going to have to check out an episode or two. I remember the cartoon airing on Saturday mornings back in the day.
