Another solid episode written and directed by Famuyiwa. That pirates sequence felt like something he’d do with action figures. That shot of them all jumping on to the transport was cool.

Loved Bill Burr in this. I hope he continues to make appearances from time to time, but that seems kind of unlikely.

Another great episode, loved it. IMO it brought back for me least the greatest sound effect in the Star Wars universe as well. When I saw the charge release from Fetts ship my eyes LIT UP, I was like no way and then that sonic bliss emanated from my sound system I was all HELL YEAH. Can’t wait to watch again with my son and I can crank it up to 11 to really hear it. Have to listen to quietly when he’s in bed at night.

Why unlikely? I have a feeling he is going to be on the new Rangers show. They really seemed to be setting that up with some of the dialogue with Cara Dune and the way she was acting. Like she wanted to recruit him. Just a feeling I got, though.

Great episode. Was that the last time we see Pascal's face?

Yea, maybe on another show.

They way they left him though seemed like it would be forced to reintroduce him again (atleast in this show). I’d be all for him being a regular on Rangers.

Yeah, pretty solid episode. That Imperial actor has been in a lot, I recognized him as Joe Chill from Batman Begins.

Gotta be a longer runtime next week right? We've been saying that all season though...

Good episode and nice to see Boba Fetts armor with a new paint job. Everytime i see Slave 1 in action it brings a smile to my face. Always loved that ship. And nice to see the bomb from AOTC, shame it wasnt used as well as in that movie.

Watched again, looks like they gave a nod to ANH. When Mando and Burr are leaving the mess hall, they exit out onto the ledge. The first trooper coming out after them knocks his head while exiting and it makes a “doink” sound. Thinking that was a homage to the blooper of the stormtrooper who bangs his head on the blast door that was opening.

Loved this episode. Some may say it was filler, but it did a lot for both character and world building. I don't know if Lucasfilm has any further plans for Boba Fett after this season, but I hope they don't have him die in the finale. Don't know why that popped into my head as a possibility, but it seems like something they would do to get people to talk and more or less have him pass the torch to Mando as the new cool SW character.

I can actually see that argument for this episode. Not that it was a bad episode but just that we've had some pretty incredible episodes this season and since this is the last episode before the season finale it did feel like not much happened this episode. Still highly enjoyable and I like how they showed how desperate Mando is to remove his helmet in front of othersand I LOVED showing some daily stormtrooper/imperial life. That exchange with Burr and the officer was so well done and a really great insight into life after the collapse of the empire. That's why this show is so awesome and exactly the level of "fan service" that I love. Yeah it was awesome seeing Boba Fett in refurbished armor and see those awesome implosion bombs from the Slave I. All awesome jaw dropping moments. But those subtle scenes that really flesh out the world of Star Wars is what really elevates this show and what I love about this series. Anyone can be like, "put Boba Fett in the series" but to actually take the time to write a scene about how an ex imperial trooper might feel confronting an imperial officer who we have seen so many times callously disregard the lives of the troopers under his command was just awesome. I wish we had more of that with Finn in the ST. JJ did a good job of introducing that concept in TFA but then it was quickly forgotten about by RJ in TLJ.

Also how awesome was that to see the inside of Slave I pivot around when changing orientation!

Guess I'm in the minority here... This was easily my least favorite episode of the series. It felt like the writers were stalling before the finale. The pirate scene just went on and on. C'mon--we knew Mando & Co. would prevail. I'm not impressed with Mayfeld. And dank farrik--no Grogu at all?

The Empire/Rebel dynamic was cool in that we actually got to see Empire troops celebrate for once. It humanized them when Burr and "Brown Eyes" entered the base. Everyone was happy and cheering and "Joe Chill" wants to have a drink and toast to battles of the past.

I both agree and disagree. It really was a filler episode and a stall, but it was really done. The Empire and especially the Stormtroopers are always shown to be just mindless drones, but this was really a surprisingly nuanced show and humanized the Empire a bit. We tend to think of them as just pure evil but obviously they are not all like that.

I enjoyed it.

I do agree that either we get a super long episode or a SERIOUS cliffhanger next week.

Another good episode. It was cool to see how much Mando loves Grogu to remove his helmet like he did.

I’m a fan of Bill Burr so seeing him show up again was great. I love how they wrote his character with all the Bill Burr-isms. His grumbling about the smelly trooper with the wet gloves made me laugh out loud. They definitely made a point to show how impressed Cara was with him that it seems fairly obvious he’ll return as a member of her team at some point.

Bill Burr was/is great. I was worried as they were jumping on the ship at the end he was going to take one in the back and die, thus preserving the fact that nobody alive has seen Mando's face. I'm a sucker for "scoundrel's with honor" characters.

I noticed that too. That was a pretty nice touch. Mando crawling back into his seat grunting in pain was nice to show that he uses his armor as a weapon a lot in combat and was missing it with the crappy trooper suit.

Burr did really well in this episode. The way he was rocking back and forth, quietly welling up with rage as he was listening to the Imperial officer was great.

It’s funny that the people complaining about filler episodes didn’t seem to notice that some “filler” episodes are referenced again for the continuing story as we saw here with them calling back to the “Prisoner” episode from last year and aren’t really as “filler” as they initially appear.

That's one reason why I find the "filler" complaints so silly. In a show like this, episodes that some see as filler are likely starting plot threads that just happen to not be contiguous. Personally, I like that this show seems to take its time expanding the characters and the universe.

Another great episode.

I like how they subtlety set up The New Order by saying people would welcome the order of the Empire.

And the return of the bomb was fantastic. Love Slave I as a ship (I have the toy and two LEGO versions of it) so it was cool to see it in action again.

Good episode again overall. I like Bill Burr as Mayfeld as well. He’s a character who I wouldn’t mind seeing pop up now and again.

The tanker part with Mando having to deal with the pirates was cool.

I was a bit confused how Mando’s face was recognized for the scan at the Imperial base. I would have thought it would only recognize Troopers or Imperial officers. Also surprised at how long he went without wearing the helmet, but it was necessary for him to try and locate Moff Gideon in order to rescue Grogu.

Getting used to Boba being a part of the show and his new look. Kind of wonder when he had time to give the armor a fresh coat of paint though.

I liked how Boba said he couldn’t be the one to infiltrate the base as a nod to the fact that he’d be recognized due to him being a Clone of Jango, and obviously the fact that the early Troopers looked like him.

The episode also seemed to give some nods to Rogue One. The planet the Imperial base was on looked sort of similar to Scarif. Also some of the Troopers seemed similar. In particular the Tank Troopers and the Shore Troopers.

For me at least this episode does kind of feel like a filler episode only because we have just one episode left. I still loved the episode and am not complaining it's a filler episode but I can at least understand the argument for this one. It just feels like a completely arbitrary reason to have to raid this one imperial base and feels like backtracking instead of advancing any of the numerous plots that are in the air. I kind of feel like the writers were playing an RPG and decided to take on some random NPC side quest instead of diving into the main quest after a major plot point occurs.

tanman 12-13-20 01:01 AM

Re: The Mandalorian: Chapter 15: The Believer (S2E7) - 12/11/20

Speaking of arbitrary I don't understand the need for Mando to get his face scanned? It's not like he's in the database so how could he access it with his face? Did I miss something?

Also does that mean that Apple is the preferred software provider for the Empire if they're having issues with masks and face ID?

Cellar Door 12-13-20 01:34 AM

Re: The Mandalorian: Chapter 15: The Believer (S2E7) - 12/11/20

Re: the face scanning

From their conversation beforehand, the scan was to check the user's face against a database of people "wanted" by the Empire. Hence Fennec and Dune couldn't do it, and Boba couldn't because of his resting clone face, so Mayfield was going to access the terminal. So I guess the Empire is okay with any old grunt accessing the terminal, as long as you're not on their naughty list.

tanman 12-13-20 02:49 AM

Re: The Mandalorian: Chapter 15: The Believer (S2E7) - 12/11/20

Ah okay. It would make more sense if it was in a public area like a market place of a space port. But why wouldn't an imperial security channel filled with tactical information in an imperial officer's mess on an imperial base have a more secure channel and scan for positive access rather than negative access. I know, because it's convenient for the plot. And I know I'm being nitpicky.

I thought this would be a "filler" episode, but the closest thing to a filler episode this season has had was episode 2 - the one with the egg laying thing. Grogu ate some of the eggs. Other than that, all killer no filler, this season has been. Shit, if anything, season 1 had more filler episodes than anything and look how that one turned out.

That's what I thought. Since Mando was taken in by the Mandalorians as a child, his adult face should just be a completely unknown quantity as far as the Empire (or any party for that matter) is concerned. I guess that having no record is ok, they just care about people with a record of some sort.

Caught this last night. A pretty good job by Rick Famuyiwa writing his 1st episode and directing as well. Burr was great and I enjoyed having Dune and Fennec participate in this with key parts in the story. I loved Mando threatening Mof Gideon at the end about Grogu.

I wonder if this was Pedro Pascal's only day on set for the season.
