I don't even know what that was. Show is frustrating. Going into the future should have been great for the show. No constraints. Instead, we are basically revisiting old plots.

Was Carl a Q? Sort of got that vibe.

No one would like her in real life. The best option for her is to be killed off by Prime Burnham and just become the show's villain.

So the sphere data sends you to a random location on a random planet to save Phllipa, and they meet someone probably like Q just hanging out in front of a door, which they are told is the "only solution" and of course Burnham just gets pissed off personally and just wants to leave and fuck the solution. So typical. Carl should have just lightning bolted her to death. She doesn't immediately think "wow, there really is something here!" Typical.

Other than Burnham the episode was pretty decent.

Yeah they did not really come up with a super compelling future. They insist on making Burnham the focus of the show (the demotion sure did a lot) and it drags it down. The burn and new Starfleet and the Emerald Chain are just not really compelling at all. Endless possibilities and they come up with this. Not saying I would have come up with something better but man this season is a miss for me.

Burnham has always been the protagonist, I don't know why that surprises anyone.

And Carl wasn't a Q, just look at the newspaper as he specifically hints at. It's the Star Dispatch. We've seen it in Star Trek once before.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...80c1d8375f.jpg

The paper itself references the 21st Street Mission, and Let Me Help.

This show is trending downward pretty badly. Does anyone care about the alternate universe now that they're in the future? Just kill off Michael and Georgio.

I'm still enjoying the show, but this episode doesn't do anything to advance the storyline (at least not that we know of yet - maybe part 2 will clear up something). Georgiou has some inter-dimensional time traveler disease and it's cured by having her relive her past?

Not only that but apparently become a wimp in the process? She's all "blood" this and "kill everyone" that until she goes back to her universe. Now all of a sudden she has a conscious and can't stand to see a Kelpian get treated the way she herself treated them for decades?

Burnham being the protagonist is not a surprise but the way that they are doing it is literally ruining the show. I am not sure I have ever seen someone really defend her. The reality is that the show is quite good when we were dealing with Lorca, Tilly, especially Pike and the enterprise, both Georgious, etc...the show has succeeded despite her and how incredibly poorly her character is realized- an no, she is nothing like Kirk- but this year this is no buffer for her at all and the show is just nose diving in interest She is not in any way really a sympathetic character. Her philosophy of "I don't care if the universe burns I am going to do what I think is right" attitude would work well for a villain.

I am not a Trek expert but wasnt it just a smart "portal" in the "City on"....episode? Just because it uses the same paper does not mean it is the same mechanism, Carl certainly acted like a Q.

I enjoyed this ep as any other weird Trek ep in another universe. I love Georgiou and Burnham's relationship...but Georgiou has long become "The Klingon" of this show for me. And by that I mean she has become the over the top clown that needs to chill. Though based on what I see online people looooove this about her. I attribute it to the "Sexy Badass Asian Woman" stereotype that a lot of middle aged white men love.

Anyway, hopefully this experience will take away some of her assholery when this story concludes next ep.

I also enjoyed Vance softening up a bit and even giving Saru some great advice privately.

Up until that moment I had wondered if Vance wasn't some spy or secret villain. He could still be one, but I think it's much less likely. He showed that he cares about the people under his command.

I liked this episode more than most of the season ... I think it took a long time to get to this point, but glad they made it.

I still don’t understand the whole 34th Century Starfleet needing a 24th Century Starfleet crew for anything. That would be like the US Navy needing an 11th Century Spanish galleon or something.

And where the hell did Philipa go? Was that supposed to be the living embodiment of the Guardian of Forever? Apparently not only can the Guardian send people into the past but across dimensions as well. That was a strange episode.

I think you give way too much credit to the 34th Century Starfleet. I mean shit ...They have spent the whole season telling us how in trouble and near extinction the current Federation is.

Like it or not...clearly they need this antique ship, antique crew, and yes....Michael Fuckin' Burnham tears and all..

And oh...are we glossing over the mention of Nero and the Romulan ship causing trouble for Lt. Com Yor?

Kelvin Time line mention Bitches!!!

I just started watching the show this season, so I'm still trying to learn the backgrounds of all the characters, but I find Georgiou's character completely annoying and off putting. And I've enjoyed many of Michelle Yeoh's performances over the years, but I almost cringe whenever I see her appear on this show, just completely unlikable to me.

This isn't the real Georgiou. The real one was killed in season 1. That one was a friend and mentor to Michael. This one is from an alternate universe who was initially evil. And she's a lot more snarky and antagonistic.

What is this show doing? There’s an incredible story to be told about the Emerald Chain and we’re dicking around with some snow-hobo who was admittedly the most interesting thing this whole season.

When does Lower Decks come back?

Uhm, Yes. You seem to equate having technology as an indicator that all struggles of Humans and Non-Humans are gone.

 I'm not a huge Trek fan, I've watched the various shows sporadically over the years but the concept of this season's Discovery interested me so I'm giving this one more of a regular watch than usual. It was off to a great start, but now I'm not so sure, I'll probably stick with it though.

I liked the interaction between Michael and Georgiou early on in this episode. I like the way Saru is evolving as a leader. Tilly seems a bit like his secretary, so I'd like to see her start to show some leadership going forward. The whole doorway to Georgiou's alternate universe so she can have some penance to get her life back seems weird, but I guess we will see where it goes.

Wow, you must be some sort of mind reader because I 100% agree with this view.

(A friend called Burnham a "compelling character" in a post on FB and I replied that "compelling" is not the word I would use to describe her character.)
