A great return, this series doesn’t miss a step. Love the flashback to the Empire falling and other groups filling the power vacuum. And I *loved* seeing R5-D4, he was always my underdog favorite as a kid.

I still think that there is a chance it’s implausible, but less so now. No I haven’t read thread until I finished episode just a couple hours ago so nothing would be spoiled. So take your bullshit Jesus Fucking Christ remark and kindly and with all do respect, shove it where the sun usually doesn’t shine.

It was 100% Boba Fett. The entire episode was set around Olyphant owning the armor that belonged to Fett and the actor at the end is the actor that played Jango Fett.

Not to mention the casting news was reported long ago that Fett was appearing.

please see response above. I try not to read things in advance so I won’t be spoiled when I actually watch. Pretty much like every other person who likes to go into shows, movies, books fresh and without prejudice and without knowing what’s to come. Call me crazy, but it just makes those things that much better.

I was basically agreeing and reasoning the plausibility. This discussion is over. Back to an amazing episode and show. Thank you and good night.

Yeah Oldboy ... the fans have spoken. This is the way.

Not sure whether I should use a ;) or a -rolleyes-.

Think I am going to go with a -rolleyes-.

But then I agree with your post. I would prefer it isn’t Boba Fett. But then my desires mean nothing.

As for the episode ... Two of the best minor callbacks/attention to detail moments:

1) Tusken Raiders riding single-file was already mentioned. I was geeking out over that and my flat mate had no idea what I was talking about.

2) The oil/grease running down R5-D4’s head. You’d have thought somebody would have cleaned that up by now!

Fantastic episode!

Really good season premiere. Mando is such a badass. An hour of him just being awesome, and yet also very calm and collected when needed.

Definitely a lot of Easter eggs throughout the episode, but they were well done. I think it’s cool going back to Tatooine and seeing different areas. It liked the fight with the Gamorreans at the beginning and it was fun seeing R5-D4 show up.

I definitely got a vibe of a Star Wars version of Tremors from the episode as well. Didn’t really mind but it definitely seemed like a big influence.

Seeing Boba Fett’s armor was very cool to see. I liked Timothy Olyphant’s character and hope we see more of him. Interested in seeing how what will be done with Boba later in the season too.

That battle with the beast had a pretty high body count. Mando should have thought of trying the explosive bantha snack for the dragon in the first place.

When the Mandolorian got “eaten” I kept picturing Drax jumping in that beasts mouth in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
I’m not super stoked about the Boba Fett return since the character lost something with me since the prequels. I’ll admit seeing the armor and Sarlacc pit again was really cool. It just bums me out he’s a clone.

I guess to me it doesn’t bother me that badly. In the Original Trilogy we really knew nothing about him as a character. He just had a cool look.

I wonder if they'll show what happened to Slave 1. We didn't get to see it in ROTJ, but I'm assuming it was left somewhere near Jabba's Palace.

And that's all it has been for 40 years.

The Clone Wars expands on him a bit, but he’s only a kid during that.

I don't recall if it's been brought up but why does no one in this world know of Yoda? It's 5 years since the war, they know about both death stars, they know about Jaba but any specifics about Jedi or even the existence of Yoda are lost to time (in 5 years)? You'd think someone who fought the Emperor within the senate chamber and was a commander during the war would be well known.

Yoda and any surviving Jedi went into hiding closer to 30 years ago.

The Galaxy is a big place with, apparently, no internet. Luke didn't know about Yoda either. And the Jedi were already considered somewhat mythological even before the Death Star was destroyed. So it's really been maybe 30 years or so since the fall of the Republic.

True but there was plenty going on with Jedi during the OT. IDK, it just seems strange every time a new character acts like they've never seen anything like it when Yoda was the same race and died at around 900yo, 5-6 years before the time of the show. Someone like that wouldn't vanish from history. People would be telling tales of him all over the galaxy. Moff Gideon has to know what "the baby" is, right?

It seems like whatever species Yoda was and The Child is are pretty rare. I mean we’ve only seen three of them (Yoda, Yaddle, and The Child). Maybe they’re endangered or something in the Star Wars universe and people don’t know about them because of how rare they are.

Re: The Mandalorian: Chapter 9: The Marshal (S2E1) - 10/30/20

They don’t have “the Internet” or whatever in this world (yes some of those nerdy expanded books have a holonet, but that’s not around here, and if it is, it bears no relevance to the lives of any of the characters we have met thus far).

They have that holographic stuff that can send and receive data, droids, but otherwise it’s all like 1970s tech (in terms of communication), and that is used to the story’s advantage to facilitate that there can still be “legends” or myths from word of mouth, despite them having all this crazy stuff going on.

I’m sure there will be people who know or understand the significance (Werner Herzog’s character probably did), but for example a low level person like Amy Sedaris’ character is not one of them.

Even when the Mandalorian finds and leaves a new friend, they can’t exchange numbers or anything, they’ll just run into each other randomly or find each other at a bar.

well, I'll tell you, if the guy at the end is NOT Boba Fett, and just some random fucking clone trooper then that is pretty damn shitty.

But reviving a character who died 30 years ago is not? And reuniting him with his armor NOW?

I hope he gets the gold dice from the Jawas too.

To each his own.

Yeah, the Banthas were the Red Shirts of the episode, and I like the creatures. One thing I really love about this show is that we get to see a lot of Star Wars beasties that you would find in those The Beasts and Creatures of Star Wars type books brought to life. More please.

Also, the Star Wars fans running this show do indeed love them some Tremors. Hey, if you are going to pay homage to a creature flick you are are on solid ground if Tremors is your inspiration.
