The Right Stuff (Disney Plus Mini-Series)
I am a big fan of both the Tom Wolfe book and the flawed but thrilling movie adaptation. This looks to be potentially very good, despite the lack of star power. Sign me up! Comes out in October.
The Right Stuff, a Disney Plus eight-hour miniseries produced by Leonardo DiCaprio‘s Appian Way, is based on Tom Wolfe’s best-selling book. Originally intended to be a National Geographic Channel presentation but then Disney+ stepped in, etc. It begins streaming on 10.9 with a two-hour opener, and continues with six one-hour episodes. It costars Patrick J. Adams, Jake McDorman, Colin O’Donoghue, Aaron Staton, James Lafferty, Micah Stock and Michael Trotter. |

Cool! I've read the book and the movie is one of my all-time favorites.
I was very young when the movie came out (1983) and so the Mercury program seemed like it was very, very long ago to me at the time but it was only about 20 years earlier. And now it's been 37 years since the movie came out! Time is weird. |

F'kin a-right Bubba!
Seriously though, the movie is the one I consider the best movie of the 80's. I completely understand those that disagree and see your points, and I admit this is an entirely biased opinion. All that said, this show looks like something I will need to check out. |

Wow. Making my $3.78mo 3yr subscription pay off.

Re: The Right Stuff (Disney Plus Mini-Series)
This looks absolutely incredible. Hope since it's Nat Geo they will lean more towards historical accuracy.

That trailer is fantastic. I hope the show lives up to it.

They don't even mention Chuck Yeager? :whofart:

Re: The Right Stuff (Disney Plus Mini-Series)
Sounds like a typical NatGeo mini-series -- high on production values but low on actual content and insight. The book is a real work of literature and the 1983 movie is an attempt, however misguided at times, to do it justice. This sounds like a paint by numbers look at the Mercury program which is all well and good but it shouldn't be called "The Right Stuff." Of course being the space nerd that I am I still plan to watch.

I really enjoyed the first 2 episodes. It doesn’t seem like it’s reinventing the wheel with the story but it seems to be expanding a little on the movie. Although of the 7 astronauts, the first 2 episodes really only focus on Alan Shepard and John Glenn. Maybe the other episodes will give the others more screen time.
And yeah, I thought it was a little strange that there hasn’t been any mention of Chuck Yeager. |
Re: The Right Stuff (Disney Plus Mini-Series)
I watched the first two and thought it was decent. But, I am a sucker for anything around the space program.

Re: The Right Stuff (Disney Plus Mini-Series)
I liked the first ep, critics can be a bummer sometimes, good production values and I also love all things space... so I’m in for the rest of the way...
