History channel “Alone”

So I just found this “on demand” and began season 1. There are 10 contestants chosen and they can only bring 10 items with them. They are spread far enough out so the contestants don’t or are unlikely to come in contact with each other. Season 1 was on Northern Vancouver Island.

For anyone that’s seen this do they know ahead of time where they are going? I can’t seem to find it anywhere

It's a pretty impressive show of it's type, -and certainly the most appropriate for this time. Each contestant sets up a camera rig and there is no crew around them (there are producers and a medical staff in a remote location). What's amazing is that each season the winner has gone much further than the last. The current season will award one million to the person that lasts 100 days. This season they've added an "After Show" hosted by Survivor's Colby Donaldson. Some of the tap-outs are heart-breaking, because one small mistake, -like losing your fishing line, -can send you home. There's also a fair number of contestants who lose the "mental game" and have to tap out.

This series is fantastic. I highly recommend it.

The participants know the region there are going into (such as season 1 Vancouver Island), so they have a general idea of what to expect for weather, etc. But they have no foreknowledge of the details of their exact location. Production has the locations scouted ahead of time and each are a little different in terms of resources, particular landscape, etc so that the contestants must adapt to what is accessible. The contestants are randomly drawn into the locations just prior to insertion and see them for the first time when they are dropped off.

Spoiler:
Plus Alone has the best season finales of any reality show, period. The payoff in the last 10-15 minutes is always amazing and completely unlike any other show.

Love this show. Not sure why it's so ignored. Probably the best pure survival show.

I like the fact that the contestants are given a few items to utilize during their time that really helps them in their survival. It may not seem as EXTREME! as something like Naked and Afraid, where the contestants are literally given nothing but for entertainment value it’s a lot more entertaining to watch people surviving by actually doing something to further their effort than it is to watch a bunch of naked people sitting by a fire or sleeping the day away in their shitty lean-to just trying to conserve enough energy to make it the 30 days.

Easily the best survival show, and I think I'd go so far as to say the best reality show of any type. Certainly the most real.
