Mike Judge's Beavis and Butt-Head (Paramount+) -- premieres 8/4/22

Heh-heh, heh-heh, we're old.

Comedy Central is rebooting the iconic animated series Beavis and Butt-Head for two new seasons.

Creator Mike Judge is on board and will voice both characters. But this isn't simply new episodes of the 1993 MTV series about two dense slacker teens in Texas that ran for eight seasons. This revived version brings Beavis and Butt-Head into the modern world.

"In this iteration, Beavis and Butt-head are entering a whole new Gen Z world," Comedy Central said in a press release. The series will contain "meta-themes relatable to both new and old fans -- Gen X parents and their Gen Z kids."

It will be interesting to see how the duo will fare 20 plus years later.

So Beavis and Butthead will be older? Will they just transport them in 2020 as teenagers today? What about the music video segments? During the last run on MTV they critiqued a lot of the MTV shows on at the time. Will they do something similar?

To me the characters kind of feel like products of the time the original show aired personally. I’d rather Mike Judge revive King of the Hill personally.

Interesting. The series about 10 yrs ago was OK. I watched it but there wasn't anything that stood out. This might be interesting due to the crowd they are targeting. I will definitely watch. I wonder if this came about because animation is infinitely easier to do during the pandemic, so Judge wanted to line something up after Silicon Valley and was the best option.

I'll give it a try, but I'm still annoyed about all the edits he made to the original episodes.

What are the odds the Zoomers actually tune or, or know what Comedy Central is.

The montage of them trying to set the rat trap was classic B&B, made me laugh just as hard as anything from the 90s version.

Mike Judge also proved himself correct on Idiocracy; in the 2011 episodes, the duo was just as dumb as they were in the 90s, but compared to the dullards of Jersey Shore and Teen Mom they spoofed in the episodes, suddenly they actually seemed more intelligent.

I liked the episode when they tried to get fat eating junk food like Morgan Spurlock in Super Size Me.

I wondered about the video segments too. That was my favorite part as a teen of hearing them just trounce everybody in a similar way that myself and my friends did when we watched MTV. I guess they could trounce video while watching Youtube?

I know it will never happen due to rights issues but damn I wish they would release the old stuff of them critiquing all the music videos. It was so funny when they would just totally bash a band's video and point out completely obvious dumb shit. I was stunned even back then that MTV aired a lot of the stuff they said about different videos and bands. But that was what made it so damn funny and must-watch TV. You wanted to see what they would say or make fun of next. The regular skits/segments were funny too but we always preferred the videos to any of the other stuff.

As long as CC puts the show on Youtube they'll be good.

B & B skewering music videos was my favorite part of the original show. That was its whole raison d'être, without that I don't see much point. Hoping to be happily surprised though,

re: Mike Judge's Beavis and Butt-Head (Paramount+) -- premieres 8/4/22

Beavis and Butt-Head, meanwhile, will return with new episodes this year and forgo its debut on Comedy Central in favor of Paramount+. Comedy Central announced in mid-2020 that it was reviving the Mike Judge and Greg Daniels comedy for two new seasons (and spinoffs). The new episodes will now skip linear TV entirely and debut on Paramount+ at a date to be determined this year. The series will join the new movie, Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, on Paramount+ this year. Both the show and the movie join the library of more than 200 episodes of the original comedy about the two rocking slackers on the ViacomCBS-backed streamer.

The iconic animated duo of Beavis and Butt-Head are back and dumber than ever! The '90s pop-culture phenomenons return, voiced by creator Mike Judge, to confound common sense, torment each other, and showcase some of the dumbest comedy imaginable. Mike Judge's Beavis and Butt-Head is streaming August 4th, exclusively on Paramount+!

Im...confused.

The movie sent them into 2022, but in the new show, they are still in school with the same teacher from 1998? Wouldn't it be a new teacher?

Way too much thought in that one D. This is Beavis and Butthead.

Also, I haven't checked, but does P+ have the older B&B series?

Yes. They were all added a while back, but last time I checked, they were in blocks of episodes.

Yeah, but they just did an entire movie of them going into the future so...

It looked like they had a flat screen TV instead of that pos tube TV with rabbit ears from the original series. So basically what every other animated show does. The characters don't age, but their environment, technology, world events are current.

Right. I totally get that, just like South Park, Simpsons etc.

But - they literally just had a movie where they went through time from 1998 to 2022 and people in 1998 AGED into 2022 and were older. I get its a cartoon, but they just established the world around them, everyone included, has aged. Its clear this is 2022 with the flat panel TV, but their teacher would be in his late 60s/early 70s.

Guess we'll just see in a few weeks.

Not only that, the Daria spinoff may or may not address those issues as well since that show has also been off the air for 20 years.

I watched the new movie and liked it. I think the thing with Beavis and Butt-Head though is that a little bit of them goes a long ways.

I still would rather Mike Judge revisit King of the Hill, which I know has been talked about but I’m not sure if anything is actually happening with it.

They have a King of the Hill reboot planned out (taking place 15 years after the finale) but it hasn't been picked up by any networks/streamers and may have not even been pitched yet. But considering how much they're playing it syndication lately it's only a matter of time (it was last mentioned in Feb of this year)
