If you care about picture quality, definitely watch it on HBO Max.
Agreed. Surprisingly, some shows look better to me in 1080p than 4K. I run comparisons on Amazon and sometimes I choose the 1080 source over the UHD.

Yeah, I could have used a recap, I forgot a lot about last season's finale as well and was really confused at first. Now that I have my bearings again, I enjoyed the first two new episodes, still a really good show.

This show is so fucking weird but it is enjoyable. Cliff is the absolute best. Always has the best lines.

Re: Doom Patrol (HBO Max/DC Universe) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 6/25/20

I'm now caught up through 4 of the 5 episodes that have aired.

I guess most of you are waiting to binge it because this thread is pretty freaking dead.

Sex Patrol, which aired last week, was so freaking weird and also hilarious. The birth of that demon baby, which could have ended the world and then Flex returning to cause Rita to have that massive orgasm. : again

But, it was pretty much a follow up to Danny Patrol from last season since they brought back most of the characters from Danny Street.

and I've enjoyed the storyline about Chief and Dorothy. Chief really came to terms with his abilities as a father.

This show is so deep with it's messages that I can understand that it may be hard to articulate any thoughts about it.

Pain Patrol from the week before had some really disturbing images of sadism.

Most of the plots are internal character driven, very little outside world interaction

I watch it weekly, just terrible at coming up with talking points on the show. Enjoy it though.

Yup, I'm still watching week to week, and I'm enjoying it. The Dorothy/Baby Doll stuff got really dark really quickly. I can't wait to see the results of that next week.

Yup, I was thinking Jane (and team) versus Dorothy (and team) were pretty evenly matched. Candle dude kicked the shit out of that idea.

Truncated season (was supposed to be 10, we got 9) definitely showed with the "season finale"

Re: Doom Patrol (HBO Max/DC Universe) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 6/25/20

Fantastic season finale. Binged the final 3 episodes tonight.

For an episode that wasn't even intended to be the season-ender, that worked out as a great finale. Ended on a massive cliffhanger. HBO Max better renew this. I know this show doesn't really get a lot of buzz compared to the others, but it's a fantastic and deep show. More people need to watch it.

Dorothy embraces her dark side leaving everything in limbo. I have to wonder how the original finale was going to end.

And I loved the story with Miranda/Jane. And wow, an orgy. That was unexpected.

Yeah you won't get orgies in Marvel stuff. And this orgy wasn't gratuitous. I love DC

Re: Doom Patrol (HBO Max/DC Universe) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 6/25/20

Finale was not very good. Felt extremely rushed, likely because an entire episode was cut. Not a fan of giant cliffhangers that leave absolutely everything unsolved from the entire season as I've been burned by too many shows that don't end up getting renewed. Felt more like a mid-season break than a season finale.

DC Universe is now practically dead as of today. So let’s hope HBO Max picks this up as it only got a S2 because it was partially paid for by the HBO “team”.

I really enjoyed the second season, this is still my favorite DC TV show by far. Come on, HBO Max, pick it up for a third season, please!

Re: Doom Patrol (HBO Max/DC Universe) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 6/25/20

Just finished up the show so far (I hope), I binged from season 1 through season 2. I waiting until I saw the "season finale" banner on HBO Max, and thought waiting until season 2 finished up would save me from any cliffhangers.

I think the season finale wasn't even "rushed," it's just unfinished. I'm pretty sure episode 9 was shot as if there'd be an episode 10 to wrap everything up, and then COVID-19 happened, so, there isn't.

I hope they get another season, but if not, at least a chance to finish up episode 10. Maybe if HBO Max doesn't want another full season, they could make a finale movie, using episode 10 as a starting point and then wrapping up some other storylines.

Regarding some plot point:
Spoiler:
"Miranda" is the personification of Kay's dad that's tormented her through the years. It seems like "Miranda's" plan is to eliminate all the other personalities until they're alone to torment Kay forever. It came up when Jane was vulnerable to a take over as primary. I wonder if Kay's request for Harold was maybe her trying to tip off Jane that something was up.

For the Candlemaker, I think it's not something that Dorothy dreamt up, but something that is far older, and Dorothy and her mom exist to stop. It seems that up until puberty, the Candlemaker can't come out unless Dorothy "wishes" it so, but after puberty, Dorothy has to more actively keep the Candlemaker at bay. As an immortal child, her aging depends on the experiences she has, not just mere years passing, so Niles keeping her locked away effectively kept her perpetually 11. Now that she's away from Danny and experiencing more, she finally grew up some more. Dorothy's spear at the end looked badass.

Re: Doom Patrol (HBO Max/DC Universe) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 6/25/20

I'm glad it got renewed. The article doesn't specify whether the 10th episode for season 2 will be wrapped up as part of season 3, or released standalone though. I'm guessing it'll be just the first episode of season 3.

Great news!

It's funny, but streaming seems like it puts shows more "on the bubble" than regular commercial broadcast/cable. Yes, I'm looking at you, Netflix...

Oh absolutely, I noticed the same thing. With broadcast/cable TV shows, you have a general idea of ratings and can somewhat predict if a show might get cancelled. But with places like Netflix, where viewer numbers are a closely guarded secret, shows often seem to get cancelled out of nowhere. Many shows seem to be on the bubble, other than obvious successes like Stranger Things.
