Yeah she's great and one of the few stand outs.
The episode that really demonstrated how bad STD is on their minor characters is the one that finally featured the cyborg lady. I always thought she looked really cool and wanted to know more about her backstory but they never even mentioned her name. Then they actually featured her in an episode starting out with her tragic backstory on how she became a cyborg only to kill her off the very same episode? W.T.F. So they created a visually striking character only to keep her in the background just to pull her in front of the camera just to kill her off for cheap emotional manipulation. It was like the Nikki and Paolo episode from Lost.
That's true and a good point but TNG, VOY, ENT and even TOS all did a much better job at character growth and development then either STD or Picard. IMO an example of great character development and interaction is Lower Decks. After a single short season those characters are already a lot more endearing.

Yeah, it really shows how much Mike McMahan loved TNG. He was the one that did the TNG season 8 Twitter account a few years ago. It really stands out how the “silly, animated” series does the characters the best.

That was the best episode of Star Trek: Discovery. They actually focused on character development of one of the crew members. The problem was they killed her off in the same episode. They could have done a lot more interesting stories with her, but instead wasted the opportunity.

Akiva Goldsman on serial vs monster-of-the-week
This seems to be exactly what many of us were hoping for, mainly that there will be consequences that carry forward.

Well, I can answer it this way. We are returning fundamentally to episodic storytelling. What is unique about this particular Star Trek show in the current Star Trek Universe is that it is fully episodic. Now, when I say “fully” I’m slightly exaggerating in that the character arcs are still serialized. It’s not like Jim Kirk will see Edith Keeler die one week and be fine the next week as it was in The Original Series.
Our characters will carry with them what they suffer from, or what they learned, from episode to episode. But the stories are episodic. And that allows us to do something that The Original Series is quite good at, to give you slightly different tones.

I like the sounds of that. Character development is definitely a good thing, but I far prefer the episodic approach for Star Trek.

Sounds cool. I mean shit, life is both episodic and serialized.

Sounds like they're going back to the TNG model, where each show is stand-alone (except for two-parters and cliffhangers), but the characters are aware of what has happened to them in prior episodes and may occasionally comment on it.

I think the Super Bowl is on NBC this year, but could see them dropping a commercial for Strange New Worlds or Picard during the big game.

A commercial for a Paramount plus show on an NBC telecast? I don’t know about that. Especially since NBC has Peacock. If anything it’s possible a trailer gets released online.

Glad to hear, after Lower Decks this is my most anticipated modern Trek project.
If they’re going to do the “prequel” route then it should have been a known factor to start with.

Pike riding a horse? Nice callback to "The Cage."
And I can't really tell from the picture, but it looks like they filled in the gap on pylons.

It looks like he tried to retire after we saw him in Discovery, maybe trying to avoid his prophesied death and he gets pulled back into service. The cabin in the wilderness reminds me of the cabin in the woods that Kirk had in Generations.

The teaser trailer didn't really show much, but there were some nice looking visuals.
It does look like Pike was pulled out of some kind self reclusive retirement back to Star Fleet.

Agree there isn’t much there, but still has me really excited! I enjoyed the teaser a lot more than Kenobi.
As an aside, could you imagine telling somebody in 1978 there’d be television shows on Kenobi and Pike? They’d have thought you’re crazy!

Maybe they'll have Robert April show up for a cameo.
