The Undoing (HBO) -- S: Nicole Kidman, Hugh Grant, Donald Sutherland -- From David E. Kelley

The limited series The Undoing, coming this Fall, stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant as Grace and Jonathan Fraser, who are living the only lives they ever wanted for themselves. Overnight a chasm opens in their lives: a violent death and a chain of terrible revelations. Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace must dismantle one life and create another for her child (Noah Jupe) and her family. Directed by Susanne Bier; created and written for television by David E. Kelley, who also serves as showrunner; executive produced by Susanne Bier, David E. Kelley, Nicole Kidman, Per Saari, Bruna Papandrea, Stephen Garrett and Celia Costas; based on the novel “You Should Have Known,” by Jean Hanff Korelitz.

This doesn't premiere until the Fall, but HBO posted the 1st teaser trailer. It's from David E. Kelley, who most of you already know.

I like the cast so I’ll keep it on my radar but that teaser did absolutely nothing for me.

1st episode was good, but it was 90% set up. Well acted and directed. Just introduced you to all the characters and their lives. The plot twist didn't develop until the last 15 minutes or so and then it ends on a big cliffhanger.

Jonathan disappearing as that final revelation didn't really make sense and not sure how or if it ties into the murder. But, I'm intrigued to learn more.

Matilda de Angelis does have a rocking body.

Episode 1 was rather dull (although it did contain some gratuitous nudity from the very-attractive Matilda De Angelis). But I generally agree with DJariya above - I don't know how the ending of the first episode makes the Hugh Grant character suspect at all. I'm not even sure why Nicole Kidman's character suspects him of anything in the first place - other than forgetting to take his cell phone on a trip. I'm guessing this series may be more about her mistrust of him than him actually being guilty of anything - we'll see.

I dunno, going on a business trip & forgetting your cell phone says a lot. Who would do that in 2020? It's like forgetting to wear clothes to the airport or something.

Episode 2 was exponentially better than Episode 1 - so much that it's a shame HBO didn't run the first two episodes together last week. It would have hooked viewers much more than Episode 1 alone.

Hey, I only did that twice. And I was in a hurry!

Agree with this. While EP1 wasn't bad, it was no "Big Little Lies". Still, it kept my interest. Mainly because I love both Kidman and Grant. Glad I did, EP2 was pretty great. With a whopper of an ending I wasn't expecting. I had to turn it off quickly while they were showing scenes from next week. I didn't want to know. A friend of mine said she heard this mini-series follows the book it's based on for 2 episodes then goes it's own direction.

I watched episodes 2 and 3 last night. Both were great.

I had a feeling that kind of "Twist" at the end of episode 3 was looming that:
Spoiler:
Grace was seen on security camera in the vicinity of Elena's death

I have to wonder if it's possible being that Grace is a therapist that she may have:
Spoiler:

Spoiler:
Developed multiple personalities and the other personality snapped and then killed Elena.

My guess
Spoiler:
the father

My theory as to why:
Spoiler:
because you don't hire/pay for Donald Sutherland unless he gets to do something juicy in the part.

I loved episode 4. Jonathan is so slimy. I liked how this one showed that Grace's father has no love lost for him and basically said, I hate you, you're a piece of shit.

I was surprised to see Connie Chung at the end doing the TV interview with Jonathan. She hasn't been relevant in years in news media.

Wow. I did not even notice her that is how far she is out of my consciousness. Going to have to ask my wife if she noticed that she was on this...

Enjoying the show, But is it me, or is Nicole Kidman morphing into Jocelyn Wildenstein?

It cracked me up how there's a press circus at the court house, but those two could just go for a stroll in the middle of the day and no one is bothering them.

I could see the ending with them turning the kid into a suspect coming from a mile away.

So I'm guessing Grace's telling her friend about Jonathan's sister and the friend also appearing to be friends with the prosecutor will come up in the finale.

.
That's my only beef with the show is there would be no way they could go out with the paparazzi. They would be locked in their houses until the trial was over, as they probably should have stayed at the Beach House. That may have been more realistic to walk the private beach rather than walking on Central Avenue.

It has to. I'm wondering if the blonde friend was also having an affair with Jonathan, and she killed Elena.

Yes I saw it too. But I think the last episode will more be about who takes the fall if the kid did it? Obviously, Hugh Grant and Kidman are not going to rat their kid out and have him tried as a Juvenile, so does one of them step up?

I really did not like the trial scenes, the way the witnesses (including the detective) argued and fought with defense counsel. I'm sure it happens, but seemed pretty unrealistic.
No way the kid actually did it. How many eps total will there be?

While I am surprised this is the finale next week I am glad they went streamlined storyline and there seems to be little if any filler in this show. I have my doubts that...
Spoiler:
the kid could kill the mistress. I think maybe he is hiding the murder weapon for Dad?
