I only like the part where I stomp all over someone's creation they took hours to build (yes I'm that guy).

Re: Lego Masters

I like all the Lego stuff and I even like Will Arnett, but I just can't bring myself to watch a reality competition show. I mean, they get 15 hours to build something, and its edited to look like they worked on it 15 hours in a row - no bathroom breaks? No stopping for lunch? And the whole "immunity brick" thing? :eyeroll: The worst are the teams, though. What, the "Beard Bros"? The "Helmet Head" ladies from the Ozarks? It's cringeworthy.

I guess if it was on cable, hosted by Adam Savage and didn't have the patented FOX DRAMA METER!!! jacked up to 11, I'd like it much better.

Re: Lego Masters

I watched this with my son and we loved it! The creativity is phenomenal.

Do we really need to see them take bathroom breaks or eat lunch?

This is the Network that brought us “24”. The answer is clearly No.

Well, bathroom breaks probably not. But watching them eat lunch might be better (as in, more "organic") than the one-on-ones they do with each team... which are like every other reality competition show ever. Like, I didn't mind the shots of the chefs smoking out back or relaxing on Hell's Kitchen (and the conversations held thereof). But the one-on-ones were always just pointless filler: "My name's Billy. I'm from Nashville. Gordon Ramsay thinks he knows Southern food he's wrong, and I'll show him! Hurr durr..."

Re: Lego Masters

It's S1/E1 of a brand new type show... I'll cut them some slack. I'm not even enamored with the contestants at all --- and they are the show. I just love the creative concept... based on the hate the show is getting though, I don't think it'll have legs going forward.

I enjoyed it. I don't know what people were expecting ... it's standard reality show competition stuff.

Eh, I'm fine with the focus on lego. The Will Arnett stuff is cringeworthy but I think that's intentional? Way too many people at this point to know them beyond "beard guys" and the like but that's par for the course with these kinds of shows.

I didn't like that some of the entries got their own little animated sketches and others didn't, which kind of gave away who was going to win (or at least who the frontrunners were). I think that's a cool concept but maybe save it for after the judging? I dunno. Also, my dad watched it with me and his main comment was "they're spending 15 hours on building and it's basically for nothing?" And I kind of understand where he's coming from, that's a lot of work to just be dismissed like that, but I'm sure these guys are all superfans and have designs in their heads before even coming in.

Re: Lego Masters

Come on, guys. Sure it's obnoxious and loud, but it's a show about adults building with Lego bricks. How often do we get to see something like that on television?

It's somewhat interesting. I was disappointed when the bearded guy's lift thingy didn't work.

Re: Lego Masters

My 14-year-old son, who is very quick to laugh at his mother's reality TV indulgences, really enjoyed the pilot. Looks like we finally have a father/son show to watch, though I still need to educate him about how real "reality TV" might be.

All I was thinking was, their build was incredible and looked time consuming, the engineering on their lift seemed awesome and pretty original, and it was all down the toilet because it malfunctioned (maybe because it got bumped when they were rolling it back?). Like all that awesome work just down the drain.

How is it all for nothing? Isn’t the grand prize 100 grand? I think that’s something. Pretty good odds too, compared to the lottery.

With no elimination and no points system of any kind, they seemingly could have twiddled their thumbs for fifteen hours and gotten through. Heck that one team basically started their true build at like six hours left and they got more praise than some of the other teams.

I know the experience probably helps them grow as a team or something, so I guess we'll see if these people improve or if most of it is just ingrained decades of building and the best builders will rise to the top. If every build has engineering of some kind some of these teams are already in trouble.

But nobody knew there was no eliminations for first build. There will be eliminations for every one now. There is clearly something to lose now.

Episode #2: Good choice voting off
Spoiler:
the two older ladies from the Ozarks.

They were by far the worst builders. Pretty sure my two sons would've come up with a better creation.

The green tentacle monster was a pretty cool build. That team, along with beard team and the gold brick owners, are by far the strongest contestants.

Re: Lego Masters

This show is interesting on several levels: First, Will Arnett. Second, the coolness of what they can build with Legos. Third, the unintentional humor created by the general weirdness of the cast.

What happened with Mayim? She was like in the first 20 minutes of the show then - poof - disappeared. Made me wonder if something happened behind the scenes and she just left.

Steve Harvey and The Gronk should be hosting this show. "You know how hard it is to find 'dem brown Legos?"

She had a proper exit, Arnett asked her if she had to go. She replied yes so he bid her goodbye.

I’m watching and it is almost lazy in it’s effort. Arnett literally does the least for a host as do the judges. I thought Making It was soft in it’s presentation. Man, I was wrong.

It is pretty weak but I'm watching it out of pure jealousy as one who can't Lego worth a damn.

Put on your Christopher Guest goggles and see the show in a whole new light.
