I didn't realize it was by the Sherlock creators, definitely will check this out. Looks like they are 3 90 minutes episodes, just like Sherlock.

I'll watch. I do wish they would do a real story about Count Vlad III Dracula (Vlad the Impaler) . That is an interesting tale if history is any judge.

Re: Dracula (Netflix) -- Premieres 1/4/20

Just watched the first episode. Holy hell, I wasn’t expecting this to be what it is. What a damn good pleasant surprise it’s been so far. It’s bordering on ludicrous but has some really great stuff throughout the episode. Last half hour is a great gore-fest. Looking forward to the next 2.

Re: Dracula (Netflix) -- Premieres 1/4/20

No spoilers but that 3rd episode twist (or was it technically at the end of episode 2?)...did not see that coming. I did enjoy how much of the novel was in the first two episodes and while I am not a Dracula enthusiast I have actually read the novel (but holy heck, it was quite some time back) so that instantly elevated my opinion of the show. I need to finish off the 3rd ep tomorrow (well, technically later this morning) but this was a win as far as I am concerned.

Re: Dracula (Netflix) -- Premieres 1/4/20

I caught the first episode last night, and really enjoyed it too. The only thing I didn't like were the bits of comedy thrown in there. They seemed out of place in a serious dracula movie. I don't want a joking Dracula. He kind of reminded me of Freddy Kruger making puns once or twice.

Really enjoyed the first two episodes but the final one was a slog and reeked of lazy writing.

Re: Dracula (Netflix) -- Premieres 1/4/20

Yeah, that last episode... oof. The transition had a lot of potential, and yet it felt very squandered. The episode somehow dragged and also felt too rushed. After the first two episodes I was recommending the show. Now, I'm going to have to walk back that recommendation.

It's worth watching, just to see how it plays out. The tone is slightly different and it just feels more like a pilot for a series...
Spoiler:
but, then, it ends more conclusively, but it wasn't completely satisfying for me (and I'm sure they can find a way to do more).

Ok, that 3rd episode was not where I expected this to go. It was OK. Wish they had just
Spoiler:
stayed in the past, though. Not a fan of present day dracula stuff.

Just watched all 3 episodes and the first two episodes are great but the 3rd one was a bit off, although the ending itself was fine.

So does this bring anything new to this tired genre? You can spoiler it if needed. I doubt I will watch this. I typically find vampires boring. I did like John Carpenters Vampires however and the early Hammer films with Christopher Lee.

There is some unexpected humor.

There are times, especially during the close-ups, where Claes looks just like Lee.

Re: Dracula (Netflix) -- Premieres 1/4/20

I thought that one scene in last episode was like in Horror of Dracula.
Spoiler:
Van Helsing running on top of table and torn down curtain

I don't think you'd find it interesting at all, then. It's not flashy. They talk a lot.

It was clearly an homage.

I fucking loved episode 1 and 2. Havent finish 3 but I wish they had stayed in the past.

Holy shit Episode 2 was great. I didn't mind the jokes or puns... but the added references to the lore was fantastic.

Re: Dracula (Netflix) -- Premieres 1/4/20

Here's hoping that
Spoiler:
If they do another season, they focus on the past again. They could totally spend each season about a different vampire hunter that ended up in Dracula's blood. I don't want to watch a whole season of Dracula in the present. That last episode came across as a cheap show on the CW network.
