I could be being clueless here but why does everyone look at "the baby" like they have no idea what it is? Wouldn't everyone around at that time at least know who Yoda was?

Why would the average person know? Even in ANH, the Jedi were more like a myth, and this is set 5 (corrected from 30, but it still applies)years after RoTJ. Makes sense that at least some Imperials would have knowledge seeing as how their one time leader (the Emperor) and his main man Vader were force users.

I guess I feel that after the events of the OT, that group of people would be known galaxy wide. Is it far enough in the future that the former Jedi Council isn't known?

I found the episode decent, but am I the only who has been finding the dialog/acting more clunky these last few episodes? Gina Carano is a bit cringe-worthy.

Before the end of the OT, I could see the Empire purging history, burning books, etc.,so the former Jedi Council isn't well known. Yoda is just a name if there aren't pictures aplenty of him around the galaxy. It'd be very believable to not know what the species is. For instance, as just a farmboy, Luke didn't know who Yoda was. As far as galaxy wide knowledge of the jedi, unless people have seen the force used, I'm sure they would dismiss powers as myth and the jedi would be known as an "ancient religion". How many really saw the jedi use powers? I didn't watch much of clone wars, so I'm just basing this on the movies. Clones...mostly dead, Separatist droids...mostly deactivated. Regular folk, imperials, aliens, etc....I'd have to go movie by movie, but probably very few present for the actual use of the force. IMHO

Carl Weathers is REALLY clunky in the first half of Episode 7, when he's explaining the plan to Mando. The second half, he's fine.

Gina Carano is a horrible actress. They had to dub her voice in that movie Haywire.

I like the Cara character. Don’t see anything horrible about her acting.

I kinda wonder how many of Yoda’s species there even are. We’ve only ever seen three of them and they don’t even have an official name.

One of my favorite episode.so far, I would be happy with chow directing all or most episodes.
Looks like Taika Waaititi is going to direct the next episode 8

Solid finale...assuming one isn't looking for answers to anything about Baby Yoda.
I have not check all the threads and not sure if this has been bought up. But the year The Baby was born might be a huge spoiler of
his origins. I just thought star wars was done with that crap.

Same here. The role definitely suits her.

Overall, this was definitely some exciting tv for me.
- Return of Cara Dune
- Return of Ugnolte (hopefully he's not gone)
- Force Choke Yoda

I'm looking forward to seeing IG go into some sort of defense mode and kick all kinds of ass in the finale.

I would really love to rewatch this series on the big screen.

I think going off the official timeline this show takes place 42 years after The Phantom Menace. So if baby Yoda is truly 50 the timeline wouldn’t add up for it to be the offspring of Yoda and Yaddle.

I was thinking . I know smoke. huge potential spoiler about baby yoda.
Spoiler:
star wars timeline has baby yoda being born in he same year as anakin skywalker.
I think but I hope not they going to pull that midi-chlorians crap again, but not sure who is the mother if any.
I kind of thought clone too,but being born the same year as Vadar has to be linked. maybe.
Good show and I do not think they screw it up.

Re: The Mandalorian: Chapter 7: The Reckoning (S1E7) - 12/18/19

The Force, the Jedi, and the Sith played very little role in the war between the Empire and the Rebellion from the view of most of the galaxy. Most people saw Imperial military oppression as a form of government. The Rebellion was mainly people trying to eat and survive. There was not much mysticism or religion in the war for most of the galaxy. From what we saw, essentially “ all of the Force” in the galaxy was concentrated in The Emperor, Darth Vader, and Luke by the climax of ROTJ. It was not a “galactic factor”.

To me, this is still the greatest failing of Star Wars ... it should be about STAR WARS ... not a bad family reunion.

Re: The Mandalorian: Chapter 7: The Reckoning (S1E7) - 12/18/19

How would anyone know about Yoda? He was but one Jedi on a council of twelve 35(?) years ago and disappeared and no one but Luke ever saw him since. As dfmaverick pointed out it was an ancient religion that few commoners probably kept up with. Can anyone here (that isn't Catholic) name a Catholic Bishop or Cardinal?

Anyway, great episode. Amazing ending. I didn't see that coming at all. I think candyrocket is right, we're gonna see IG-11 kick some ass in the next episode. My daughter clapped when Baby Yoda healed Greef Karga.

So is it just me or does Mandalorian's ship remind them of the Serenity? Or at least like it belongs in the Firefly universe?

I don’t know. I think I could name the catholic cardinals if they could move shit with their minds and had other superpowers besides being able to molest children without being arrested.

Ok, can you name the Catholic Cardinals who can do that but live on the other side of the galaxy?

Edit: Actually, let’s try this: how many military leaders can you name from other countries? How about United Nations (not U.S.) military leaders during the Gulf War?

His ship is a Republic ship actually. But yeah in a way it has a similar feel.

Do military leaders from other countries have superpowers that I’m not aware of?

I just always found the way the prequels were handled a little weird. The Jedi has a council that spanned millenia and they weren’t a secret organization. They were like intergalactic cops who had bright swords and were superhuman. Everyone knew them.

In less than 50 years, people acted like they were a myth? I never really got that.

It’s not like Yoda was out putting on public displays of his powers.

You don't think there would have been many stories about him and how he led armies during the Clone Wars or fought the Emperor in the Senate chamber? If you're aware of major world events that happened in the last 50-100 years, I don't see why we'd assume that all of the Jedi have been forgotten across the "world" of SW.

majorjoe23 12-20-19 07:57 AM

Re: The Mandalorian: Chapter 7: The Reckoning (S1E7) - 12/18/19

But these aren’t world events. They’re intergalactic events. Everyone on Coruscant might know about him, but characters in the outer rim? People are talking about planets like they’re other countries, but it’s not like someone on Tattooine would ever set foot on another world, or even hear much about another. If there are thousands or millions of other populated worlds, you might not keep track or whoever is the most powerful Zoroastrian or whatever millions of light years away.
