I thought the pilot was fine, but honestly, I think Amazon's THE BOYS beat WATCHMEN to the punch. The stories are different, of course, but THE BOYS feels like what WATCHMEN could have been. I'm in for this first season, but we'll have to see how things go.

Ep.2 was a letdown for me.
Too much time was spent with "history" and not enough on the current storyline.
I came close to wiping it off my recorder.
I found myself not caring about the story OR its characters.
So far, it's not interesting enough to devote an hour a week to it.
I'll give it one more episode to reel me in or it gets dumped.
I'm not a big fan of Damon Lindelof anyway...

Between this and The Leftovers, I think Damon Lindelof really likes looking at dicks.

I hope we get more of the "American Hero Story" spots.
Sepinwall said this was the weakest of the 6 episodes HBO sent to critics, but I still enjoyed it.

No, I haven't.
IMO, movies/series shouldn't be dependent on books/comics to be interesting or appealing, unless show runners announce in the opening credits reading of the original material is a requirement.
AFAIK, that has never happened.

I really enjoyed Episode 2. Regina King is a badass. I loved her reaction when the Kalvary broke into her home. Yanks the plug for the lights out of the wall and immediately chucks a fire poker at the guy
Looks like I was right on my guess that Ozymandias had clones working for him. Also I think it's interesting how big the Tulsa bombing and riot is in this world, considering how downplayed it was in our actual country. It should have been a much bigger deal.

The state of Oklahoma did not even really address it until 2001. The Brady Theater, named Tulsa Convention Hall/Tulsa Municipal Theater from 1914-1979, is having it's name changed this year away from Brady who was a major player in the riots. Tulsa rededicated the Brady District/Street after Mathew Brady, a civil war photographer that never stepped foot or had ties to Oklahoma, in 2013. I went to high school in Oklahoma and had to take OK History, and this was not even mentioned in the book.

Aside from most of the show being shot in an unlit, windowless room at midnight, there was something not right with this show but I couldn't put my finger on it. Then I read this thread and see its a Damon Lindelof show and suddenly it all makes sense. So now I'm going to save myself some time and skip ahead to the part where I drop the show.

Really dug the second episode. Overall the show is sitting pretty high with me. One small thing I really liked was when Night Sister was helping Will into the car. For a small moment she holds him and look on her face is very loving mixed with confusion. Then she is very gentle with him making sure he doesn't hit his head. No words in that scene but it spoke loudly to me.

Re: Watchmen (HBO) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 10/20/19
I quickly got her up to speed, and said the only character from the movie (which she saw) and the book (which she did not read) that we know of is Manhattan, who is allegedly on the moon.
She said 'so this show won't have big blue d***?"
I said no.
Five minutes later, The Lord of a Manor House puts on his play.
She busted out laughing.
Anyway - I liked this episode. There are a lot of parallels and references to the book/movie (the newsstand, Looking Glass begin very similar to Rorshach) but many don't require that awareness (I agree, that if a show NEEDS prerequisite knowledge, it needs to somehow let the viewer know, or find another way to get them caught up.) I don't think that requirement is as a bad as it could be but I do see the point.
So, they keep saying
Spoiler:
And yes Regina King is awesome.

Interesting third episode. No surprise that Jean Smart is terrific in this, as she is in almost every TV show she does. Wonder what that ending meant and where that car came from - was it her car?
Wish there was more Angels but still an entertaining and mysterious episode. I’m digging this show and how it tangentially ties into the book.
