Re: Batwoman (CW) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 10/6/19
I thought this week's episode was actually pretty good, as far as the villain-of-the-week storyline. It was very dark, and it required some detective work (sort of) to figure out who she was and who her next target would be.
Still way too much time devoted to Alice, though. I really wish they would give that a rest for a while.
And the Batwoman/Sophie thing going on? Ridiculous. Totally dishonest of Kate and has to lead to disaster.

They should have merged Beth and Alice into one body with a split personality instead of immediately killing off Beth. That would have been more interesting than this.

BTW, it was announced that WB shut down production of this show. Unless they resume, it's very likely they won't complete the 22 episode order.

This is fucking sad news. Not only did the virus shut down the show, but before it happened, a Production Assistant was paralyzed after an on-set accident. Only 30 years old

Why didn't any of the crows shoot Batwoman in the face when they had her surrounded? I hate that kind of stuff in shows and movies. It's like when a chase scene is allowed to continue because none of the characters shoot their adversary's tires to end it. Liked the ending, although the idea that Alice's masks are completely realistic is a bit of a stretch just like they are in the Mission: Impossible movies.

Wow. Ruby Rose quits Batwoman. Part will be recast.

Yikes.
I know this was renewed already but what kind of ratings does this do? I can't imagine a casting change of the lead is going to help at all.

I have mixed feelings about Rose's departure. Generally, I hate it when roles are recast, but maybe a different actress will help the show's ratings? I've always felt her performance as Kate Kane was a bit stiff/wooden, and her stature was just not all that imposing yet we were supposed to believe as Batwoman she could easily kick the asses of bigger adversaries. I guess this is no different than the revolving door of actors who've played Batman in the movies. Spartacus on STARZ had 3 more seasons after the actor who played the title role left after Season 1. Maybe this show will too.

Well damn. I wasn’t keeping up with this too much, but that’s huge having your star leave the show.

I'm sure we'll hear some theories about her departure over the next few weeks. A more charismatic actress might help things, and curiosity might bring me back to at least check it out; however, my problems have been with the dull, dull storylines.

Someone who hasn't ever worked on a weekly TV show before finds out how much work it is. News at 11...

Well shit. We have 4 or so episodes left to watch. That's crazy. I bet the grueling schedule and filming in Canada got to her. I was surprised when she was cast that she would even take the roll.
