This is a great casting choice. Much better actress than Ruby Rose and she's also stunningly beautiful.

I don't watch Batwoman, but saw this trending on Twitter. Just popped in to say Javicia Leslie was good on God Friended Me and was sad to see that show cancelled earlier this year.

Cool.

Still wondering how they are supposed to tie up all the other storylines that are completely based around Kate.

Might see a spike in the first 2-3 episodes, but I just don't see this going beyond season 2. But who knows, maybe it'll catch fire (at least in terms of CW-type numbers).

Re: Batwoman (CW) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 10/6/19

This is no knock on the new lead, she's smoking hot, but I don't see why they felt the need to create a new character to be Batwoman. The entire show is based on family, Kate is Bruce Wayne's cousin, her Father, head of the Crows. Her twin sister Alice, the main criminal. Her stepsister, is a main character as well. How is all of this going to matter if a new person takes over as BW and has no ties with any of these people? JMO, but I don't see this series lasting much longer.

Cool--I might give this show a shot now. Never watched the first season though.

God Friended Me takes Jessie Quick from us, we take our new Batwoman from them. The circle is now complete. /Palpatine voice

I wonder Javicia Lesile is really playing Luke's sister Tiffany Fox?
In the comics Tiffany is Batgirl in a handful of stories during FUTURE ENDS storyline.

None of the press after Rose leaving mentions the storylines around Alice or their father, so I'm wondering if they'll just be wrapping that up and giving the character a clean slate. If TPTB thought that's why viewers were tuning in, they'd be quick to reassure that those elements were still going to be in-play. Personally, I thought the over-use of Alice and all the baggage of the "Family" storyline was a huge drag.

The article states this is a brand new character with a completely different name. I don't see a reason for them to tie it in to this character, but who knows?

The whole Alice thing has been done to death. Even if Rose had stayed, the show needed to move on to something else ASAP.

I would've been perfectly fine with a Batwing spin-off based on Luke Fox

Missed opportunity right there.

So she's only 5'4" or close to it. Ruby Rose was 5'7". I'm sure she'll still be able to take on opponents twice her size though.

I just wanted them to wrap it up without the twenty fake out of it being over.

Ratings were low, and apparently Kate Kane’s character didn’t resonate with enough fans. So with Ruby Rose’s departure, WB saw this as an opportunity to retool the show.

I've already seen parts of the script. She's a new character not from the comics. With Kate missing, this new woman cajoles the team into being Batwoman.

Everyone is predicting this show's death. Yes, likely with those who've been saying it's gonna die from day one. But remember... This is the "SEE FUCKIN' DOUBLE U" folks. This show will be on for a while and may even see a small boost in ratings for a short time from a different audience demo(non white males). I mean shit, I have people on social media who don't even watch the show making the announcement of the new actress go viral.

The attention will pay off at least for a while, -it will get some people to sample, and perhaps even become regulars. The problem with the show has been on the creative end, and we'll see if that's improved...

Fair enough. But again, The CW does its own thing. They don't just drop shows like hot potatoes like other networks. They let them live until they're ready to replace them waaay down the line.

Javicia has gotten a huge amount of support on social media.

I realize most of you have never heard of her or didn't watch God Friended Me, so you're unsure of her talents.

Re: Batwoman (CW) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 10/6/19

No matter what really happened between Ruby Rose and the producers, they're taking the opportunity to essentially re-boot the show while keeping the property's name (which is the smartest option given the circumstances). I've read statements where they're distinguishing between Kate Kane being born well-to-do and having a happy life with her sister (until the tragedy that's preoccupied every single episode of the show) and the new character as a scrappy underdog from the streets (with a history of drug-dealing). They're keeping the LGBTQ aspect because they're locked into that, -and that's fine with me, because that's part of the original character from the comics. I just hope they can handle it better than they have this last season. Here's the thing, -you're using "Batwoman" because it evokes "Batman" and the popularity of his universe. That's what brings people to watch the show. However, this first season hasn't really delivered on that, just focusing on the same storyline over-and-over and not even the illusion of progress.
It's really simple, -make "The Batman" show people would want, but make it with this female character, and then style the events and relationships with regard to this new character.

Re: Batwoman (CW) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 10/6/19

I never read the Batwoman comics when she was first introduced. I was under the impression that it was pretty well regarded but I don't know for sure. Was it? Did it have any successful story arcs? Did the the show adapt them pretty faithfully?

Re: Batwoman (CW) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 10/6/19

Batwoman will almost surely get 4-5 full seasons. The CW no longer cares about broadcast ratings. The producers and studio are building a portfolio of superhero content for long-term streaming plays. They need a LGB show to round out the portfolio, which plays well with the Hollywood executives making these decisions.

If I were running the show, I'd go in a completely new direction with Batwoman. Start infusing supernatural elements into the show. The lesbian angle only goes so far and avoid making it a low-rent Arrow knock-off. Have her meet Sherlock Holmes. Send her back in time if necessary for a side trip. Not like Legends, which has become completely ungrounded from serious drama.
