Event Horizon TV series in development at Amazon (from EP Adam Wingard)

https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/eve...on-1203291883/
Amazon and Paramount Television are developing a series adaptation of the 1997 sci-fi horror film “Event Horizon,” Variety has learned.

Adam Wingard is set to executive produce and direct the potential series. Wingard recently directed the film “Godzilla vs. Kong,” which is due out in theaters in March 2020. He has previously directed films like the recent “Blair Witch” reboot, “The Guest,” “You’re Next,” and the live-action version of “Death Note.” He also wrote and directed films like “Autoerotic” and “What Fun We Were Having.”

Wingard willl executive produce along with Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin, and Jeremy Platt. Gordon and Levin both produced the film.

The film was directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and written by Philip Eisner. The titled referred to a spaceship that disappeared after testing an experimental gravity drive capable of creating an artificial black hole that was meant to allow the ship to travel to distant points in the galaxy. A rescue crew and the gravity drive’s inventor are sent to investigate after the ship mysteriously reappears, only to discover that the ship traveled to a hellish dimension outside of the known universe that infects the ship with a sinister sentience, leading to multiple deaths.

It starred Laurence Fishburne as the captain of the rescue ship with Sam Neill playing the inventor of the gravity drive.

It was also recently announced that Amazon had boarded the Simon Pegg-Nick Frost series “Truth Seekers,” a comedy-horror series about paranormal investigators. The streamer is also currently prepping the horror anthology series “THEM” from Lena Waithe.

Among the many shows currently produce by Paramount Television is the Amazon series “Jack Ryan” as well as the Netflix shows “13 Reasons Why” and “The Haunting.”

So I see every moderately decent movie will get repurposed for television if the movie studio doesn't reboot. That space series recently on Syfy was heavily inspired by Event Horizon and landed with a thud.

I just wish they still had the original Hell footage. This movie deserved a better cut, it was rushed out. Still a fan.

Event Horizon is one of the most famous sci-fi near misses.
It came very close to being rated one of the best of the genre.

Its primary weakness is Paul Anderson didn't know how to give it the great finale it needed.
In spite of that, there is a lot to admire about the attempt.

That's not even remotely true. You need to read up on the production of this movie.

I'm kind of surprised about this one. While really enjoying the movie, I never felt a burning desire to see a sequel (or tv series), and never heard anyone else say anything either. All I've ever heard anyone say they wanted more of was the cut footage. Now that something's happening, I am interested in what else could be explored.

Amazon's choices can be somewhat puzzling.

For example, take the LOTR series they are developing...
No one was asking for it.
Most felt PJ's version is the final word on the source material.

If Amazon wanted an epic multi-year series, Frank Herbert's Dune was available.
Dune is the most popular sci-fi series of all time...beloved around the world.
It's a no-brainer for a big content producer with a lot of $$$.

There IS a reason why Amazon trails Netflix....

IDK, I'll probably check it out (and I'm also looking forward to the LOTR series)

Outside of Stranger Things, don't see anything Netflix has to offer interests me.

Aw, I'm in to watch this. I have fond memories of Event Horizon. It was the first horror movie I saw in a movie theatre, and I'm happy it's gotten a strong cult following over the years.
